About 95 South

95 South is a Jacksonville bass duo of Mike Mike (Michael Phillips) and Daddy Black (Carlos Spencer) from Jacksonville, Florida. The group's name is a reference to Interstate 95, which passes through the city. Their biggest success was the 1993 hit "Whoot, There It Is" from their debut album Quad City Knock, which reached #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was produced by Grammy Nominated C.C. Lemonhead & Jay "Ski" McGowan, then known as The Bass Mechanics, who would later be known as the 69 Boyz and the Quad City DJ's. The success of the single propelled the album to peak at #71 on the Billboard 200. In 1995, they released their second album, One Mo' 'Gen, which contained the minor hit "Rodeo" that reached #77 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album itself peaked at #158 on the Billboard Hot 200. In 1997, 95 South made a guest appearance on Aaron Carter's self-titled debut album for the song "Shake It". Their third album Tightwork 3000 followed in 2000. In 2000, the group contributed to the soundtrack for the movie Bring It On, with the song "Cheer for Me". The duo have also remixed songs for artists including Jordan Knight and Dru Hill. Since 2000, the group has continued to tour the country at major festivals including Grad Bash, Funk Fest tours, Colleges, and Private functions. In 2014, Daddy Black and Mike Mike started touring with a Live band. They continue to play the Hits and deliver audiences with a taste of their new originals, including "Chevy" and "After Party"! Their new single "Ridin in My Chevy" releases on April 22, 2016 and is a highly anticipated release by fans all over the nation. This song makes you feel good while riding down the road. It highlights an American pride and respect to Chevy owners around the world. With Chevy, the group wanted to make a tune that represents Florida and those that enjoy the outdoor weather. It brings to life so many memories of riding down the road, the radio up, and the windows down. The group talks about the song; "We enjoy making music anyone can listen to and this song made us feel good making it, so we wanted everyone to share in that moment" and "how could we not represent Chevy owners coast to coast with Ridin in My Chevy" adds Daddy Black and Mike Mike. The band continues to tour in 2016 while recording a new album! The album will feature live performances in the studio for a late 2016 release! They are rerecording some of their hits with a live band and will have new music featured on this album. 95 South has added a 10 piece band for a larger sound and provides music for all types of listeners!
