There are three artists that go by the name Arabesque. 1) A German disco group, 2) A hip hop artist from Toronto, Ontario, and 3) A Dutch prog-metal band Arabesque (1) was a famous German disco music group formed in 1977, and consisted of Sandra Cretu (came to the group in 1979), Jasmin Vetter, and Michaela Rose. After a split in 1984 Jasmin Vetter and Michaela Rose continued as the group "Rouge", while Sandra Cretu started her career in the group Sandra with Michael Cretu. Arabesque was very popular in Japan, selling more than 6 million albums there. As a matter of fact, they were more popular there then they ever were in their native country. It wasn't until 1980 that they managed to score a hit there, "Take Me Don't Make Me", which only scraped the German Top 40. Their next single, "Marigot Bay", would become their single Top Ten hit a few weeks later. Arabesque (3) has two female singers in his second album "The Union" (2002), very different from his debut album, "Beyond the veil", 8 years before. Though could be qualified as prog-metal is easier to listen to than other bands if you're not into that music style. A "lighter" Dream Theater...?
