Coshish are a progressive rock band from Mumbai, India, known for merging atmospheric, textured instrumentation with Hindi songwriting. Drawing from the expansive dynamics of acts like Tool, Porcupine Tree, Karnivool, Opeth, and A Perfect Circle, the band developed a sound that balances rhythmic complexity with melodic clarity and lyrical intent. Their only full-length release, the concept album Firdous, established their approach to long-form songwriting, combining layered guitars, shifting time signatures, and emotionally direct Hindi vocals. Mixed by Zorran Mendonsa and mastered by Jens Bogren, the album was released via Universal Music Group, a rare association for an independent Indian rock act at the time. It reached No. 8 on iTunes India, sold over 2,000 physical copies, and received editorial support across platforms, including Pepsi MTV Indies. The band’s debut album received both domestic and international recognition. They were nominated at the PROG (UK) Awards in 2014, and in India received multiple nominations at the Rolling Stone – Jack Daniel’s Rock Awards, winning Best Drummer. “Raastey” was nominated for Best Rock Song and Best Video at the VIMA Awards. In 2015, Firdous was nominated for Best Rock Album at the GIMA Awards, and the band won Best Rock Band at the Radiocity Freedom Awards. Extending their focus on physical formats, Coshish became the first band in India to release a merchandise-driven DVD box set with Mukti, a limited edition package combining over two hours of video content with curated collectibles and hand-signed material. The release reflected the band’s interest in creating a more tactile, immersive experience around their music, beyond standard digital distribution. Across their work, Coshish have maintained a focus on cohesion and physicality in how their music is experienced, extending beyond digital releases into detailed artwork and limited-edition formats. Their writing often engages with social themes and personal introspection while retaining a strong emphasis on arrangement and sonic detail. On stage, the band translates this into performances that prioritize dynamics and immersion, moving between high-volume, visually driven sets and stripped-back acoustic formats, reinforcing the contrast that underpins their recorded output.
