Eraserheads Tour Dates and Upcoming Concerts

Eraserheads was formed in 1989 by four students from the University of the Philippines Diliman, taking its name after the David Lynch movie Eraserhead. The original lineup consisted of ely buendia on vocals and rhythm guitar, Raimund Marasigan on drums, Marcus Adoro on lead guitar and Buddy Zabala on bass. The group performed regularly at campus gigs and at Club Dredd on Timog Avenue, Quezon City, Metro Manila, a now-defunct club popular in the '90s which served as a breeding ground for many Filipino Alternative Rock acts. The group submitted a demo to RJFM, but were immediately turned down as their music did not fit the classic pop-rock format of the station. Fortunately, BMG Records-Pilipinas snatched them up and released their debut affort "ultraelectromagneticpop" under their newly formed "Musiko" label. Their debut album was comprised mainly of ska-tinged pop hooks layed down on a traditional guitar-bass-drums foundation. Buendia's catchy melodies and witty, at times, caustic lyrics helped fuel the album's success. Eraserheads was one of the most popular pop rock bands in the Philippines during the alternative rock explosion of the early 90s. The Eraserheads was also regarded as the band that opened the commercial doors for other aspiring Filipino Rock bands. The band's debut album, Ultraelectromagneticpop, released in 1993 by BMG Records, was a commercial success, paving the way for other acts like Parokya ni Edgar, Rivermaya, and Yano to break into the mainstream. The album also brought the underground "college-rock" scene into public awareness. Their sophomore album Circus was also met with both critical and commercial success. It spawned well-beloved hits such as "With a Smile". For their third album Cutterpillow, released in 1996, the band experimented with a more alternative/hard rock sound. The album's biggest hit was the single "Ang Huling El Bimbo", which chronicled the life and death of a childhood romance. It received the MTV Asian Viewer's Choice Award during the annual Video Music Award. Later that year, the Eraserheads came up with a conceptual Christmas album called Fruitcake. Their fifth album, Sticker Happy, was released a few days after the MTV Awards. August 1998 saw the release of the album Aloha Milkyway in the Asian region, and finally in the Philippines two months later. The album contains chart-topping songs that have been re-mastered, as well as five new songs. Natin99 is the Eraserheads' sixth album. It was released in 1999. This is the first Eraserheads album that came out of a non-linear recording approach. Most of the musical parts were recorded separately in their respective home studios and pieced together by the band and producer Robin Rivera. This album is also notable for having the least number of songs penned and fronted by Ely Buendia as it contains mostly tracks composed by Raimund Marasigan, Marcus Adoro and Buddy Zabala. This is also the same time that Buendia released his solo album. CarbonStereoxide, was released in March 2001, featuring the tracks, "Maskara", "Playground" and "Hula." After weeks of speculation, it was confirmed that the main songwriter and lead singer, Ely Buendia, had left the band in mid-March 2002 for "reasons unknown". However, in subsequent interviews, Buendia pointed to business matters as the cause of the band's break-up. Without relenting, the three remaining Eraserheads decided to continue. Within a few weeks, the "new" Eheads debuted at Hard Rock Cafe in Makati City on April 19, 2002 featuring a female singer-guitarist, Kris Gorra-Dancel from the band, Fatal Posporos. However in 2003, Adoro quit the band as well. The remaining members added Diego Mapa and Ebe Dancel to their lineup and renamed their band, Cambio. After weeks of speculation, it was finally confirmed that the legendary OPM rock band the Eraserheads will reunite for a one-night concert to be held at the CCP Open Grounds on August 30, 2008.
