Emily Portman is an award-winning singer and songwriter, hailed as “one of the new British folk scene’s most beguiling presences” (Uncut). As a songwriter, Emily is best known for her ability to conjure darkly surreal netherworlds where folklore and fairytale collide with urban landscapes and lived experience. Her songs are rich with tales of transformation — feminist fairytales set in uncanny landscapes. She has toured widely for over 15 years as both a band leader and collaborator, including extensive work with the acclaimed ensemble The Furrow Collective and in a duo with Rob Harbron of Leveret. Her forthcoming album, Dominion of Spells, brings her songwriting firmly back into the spotlight, showcasing her distinctive voice as a storyteller and composer, and reaffirming her place as a singular presence in contemporary folk music.
