Le titre de ce deuxième album exprime l’entrée de Groenland dans une nouvelle ère, encore plus importante et vaste que la précédente. Plus de deux ans passés à donner des spectacles, chez nous ainsi qu’en Europe, ont soulevé certaines remises en question au sein des membres de la formation. Il est devenu évident qu’ils devaient continuer d’évoluer sur le plan musical et sur le plan humain, en travaillant sur l’harmonie du groupe. Alors que The Chase, premier album encensé par le public et qui s’est écoulé à plus de 32 000 copies au Canada depuis sa sortie en avril 2013, dépeignait des gens et des anecdotes avec légèreté, A Wider Space se veut plus personnel et réaliste. Ce nouveau long jeu témoigne des côtés plus sombres liés à l’aventure, l’envers de la médaille en quelque sorte. C’est un manifeste sur ce qui vient après l’euphorie ressentie au début de l’aventure, explique le groupe. Les paroles exposent l’anxiété, la peur, la survie, l’acceptation et le courage de se voir dans sa position la plus vulnérable. A Wider Space n’est pas un album pessimiste pour autant. Le réalisateur Marcus Paquin (Local Natives, Arcade Fire, The National, etc.) a su exploiter à merveille les forces créatrices de Groenland. Toujours guidées par la puissante voix de Sabrina et ponctuées par des envolées orchestrales grandioses, les dix nouvelles pièces mélangent audacieusement l’électro à l’organique. Du surprenant solo de saxophone sur Healing Suns en passant par le ukulélé réconfortant dans la chanson titre, A Wider Space réflète la maturité qu’a prise le groupe et rappelle la joie de vivre qu’on associe aux performances de Groenland depuis ses débuts. ///// Groenland's new album A Wider Space was released on September 16th, 2016 via Bonsound. The title of this sophomore effort expresses Groenland’s entry into a new era, one that is more significant and vast than the previous. The two-plus years of touring across both Canadian and European soil brought to light various questions at the heart of the band. They decided that they needed to continue both their music and human evolutions by working on the group’s inner-harmony. I might be the one to place / All my eggs into one basket / But it still feels like my best bet, sings Halde on the album’s opening track, Nothing Personal. While their debut album The Chase, which was praised by the public and sold over 32k copies in Canada since its release in April 2013, depicted people and anecdotes with lightness, A Wider Space is more personal and realistic. The new LP bears witness to the darker sides of adventure, the flip side of touring. It’s a manifesto about what follows the euphoria felt at the beginning of an adventure, the band explains. The lyrics speak of anxiety, fear, survival, acceptance and the courage to see yourself in the most vulnerable way. However, A Wider Space is not a downbeat album. Producer Marcus Paquin (Local Natives, Arcade Fire, The National, etc.) made good use of Groenland’s creative forces. Still guided by Sabrina’s powerful vocals and punctuated by exuberant orchestral arrangements, these ten new songs daringly mix electro and organic elements.
