Houston Bernard is an award-winning country artist, U.S. Army veteran, and the 2024 New England Music Awards Country Act of the Year whose authentic heartland sound blends traditional country storytelling with modern energy. Born in Oklahoma and raised in Alaska, Bernard has built a reputation as one of New England's most dynamic performers, known for his powerful vocals, engaging stage presence, and relatable songwriting. Houston’s roots in country music run deep. His father, Donny Bernard, and uncle, Johnny Bernard, toured throughout Oklahoma, Texas, and Nashville in the 1970s, backing legendary artists including Tanya Tucker, Wanda Jackson, and Sleepy LaBeef. His uncle co-wrote “Muddy Mississippi,” recorded by Reba McEntire, while his great-great-grandfather was George “Bitter Creek” Newcomb of the Dalton Gang, whose story inspired the Eagles’ song “Bitter Creek.” Music, storytelling, and a touch of rebellion have long been part of the family tradition. Growing up in Wasilla, Alaska, Houston began performing at age 12 in talent shows, shopping malls, and community events. After serving nine years in the U.S. Army as a Specialist, Master Fitness Trainer, and Water Purification & Petroleum Specialist, he returned to his passion for music and began building an independent career rooted in hard work, authenticity, and connection. Since launching his recording career, Bernard has released multiple singles, EPs, and albums, including Knockin’ Boots, Lucky Man, and Freedom. His songs “All We Are Is Memories,” “People We Are,” and “American Dream” have earned widespread attention and been featured by CMT, Country Rebel, The Country Network, and The Heartland Network. He has shared the stage with artists including Luke Bryan, Old Dominion, Clint Black, Montgomery Gentry, Michael Ray, Granger Smith, and The Marshall Tucker Band, earning a loyal following through performances that are both high-energy and heartfelt. In 2024, Houston received the New England Music Award for Country Act of the Year, solidifying his status as one of the region’s premier country artists. He is also a Josie Music Award winner, recognized among the top independent artists in the world. These honors reflect years of dedication to his craft and a growing national presence. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Dwight Yoakam, Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Bryan Adams, Brothers Osborne, Queen, and Dolly Parton, Houston creates music that bridges traditional country roots with a modern edge. His songs celebrate hard work, resilience, family, freedom, and the everyday experiences that connect people from all walks of life. Today, Houston continues to tour nationally while releasing new music and expanding his audience across the country. Whether performing in an intimate listening room, a packed club, or on a festival stage, he remains committed to creating honest, meaningful country music that brings people together and leaves a lasting impression.
