Hon ägnade sig tidigt åt kör och solosång och är utbildad vid Kulturamas jazz- och popsångslinje. Hon har även tagit lektioner för den välrenommerade sångpedagogen Torsten Föllinger. Sin professionella scendebut gjorde hon i sång- och underhållningsgruppen Just For Fun i slutet av 80-talet, och 1988 tilldelades hon Stallbrödernas Stipendium. I hemstaden Sundsvall medverkade hon i flera musikaluppsättningar, tex. Trollkarlen Från Oz 1990, och i en konsertversion av Chess. 1991 hade hon huvudrollen i Charles Dickens Lilla Dorrit i Enskedespelet i Stockholm, innan hon återvände till Sundsvall i början av 1992 för West Side Story. Senare samma år gestaltade hon Hedvig i Elvira Madigan på Malmö Musikteater, och året därpå spelade hon i Volpone på Intiman i Malmö.
