There has always been serenity at the centre of Jacana People’s music, even in their most hard-hitting moments. The UK duo of Aaron Miller and Rob Wheatley have built their reputation on a sound that bursts with texture and colour; irresistible, low-slung kick drums, elastic basslines combined with glassy pads and organic sounds that feel suspended in air. Their productions drift between organic electronica and 90s ambient techno, guided by emotional intuition. This is dance music without boundaries, it’s immersive, melodic and transportive. Jacana People’s creative partnership grew out of a long-standing friendship and on instinct rather than strategy. Making music together began as distraction and therapy, a shared space to process and explore. That foundation still shapes their output today: their tracks retain an identifiable lived-in, patient quality. Where others chase impact, Jacana People favour atmosphere and building worlds. Carefully considered collaboration has been central to the duo’s work. Jacana People have previously worked alongside artists including Antony Szmierek, Neil Cowley, Lawrence Hart and Anna Phoebe, they’ve remixed Barry Can’t Swim, Jazzanova and Emancipator, and contributed production work for London Grammar and Jaguar. These creative exchanges reflect a highly regarded duo deeply embedded within the UK’s wider electronic and alternative scenes. On their upcoming EP, Jacana People continue to expand their scope. Across a catalogue that has now surpassed 42 million streams, the pair have demonstrated both reach and range. Early releases carried a sunlit warmth, nodding to influences such as Brian Eno and Kieran Hebden. Over time, the palette has evolved. Recent material has trended more svelte and more nocturnal; informed by winter nights in the city, liminal spaces and the restrained intensity of minimal dance records. The energy of the club remains, but it feels distilled and even more intentional. Industry support to date has been abundant. They’ve received playlisting across BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music (including A-list and B-list placements), with backing from tastemakers such as Pete Tong, Jaguar, Lauren Laverne and Sian Eleri. The duo have been lauded by The Guardian, RA, Clash, Mixmag, The Ransom Note, Evening Standard and many more. On streaming platforms, Jacana People appear across major Spotify and Apple Music editorials, fronting cover slots, and launching their own Apple Music mix series Ankledeep. Sync placements with Apple and The Ivors Academy have further underlined the cinematic quality of their sound. Live, the duo translates their immersive productions into understated but enveloping performances. They have sold out headline shows at Corsica Studios and The Social, appeared at festivals including Lost Village and Latitude, and shared stages with artists such as George FitzGerald, Weval, Poolside and Model Man. Whether in a late-night club room or a festival tent at dusk, Jacana People operate in the space between introspection and release, music designed for both collective movement and solitary reflection.
