About Jimek
JIMEK was sent to music school at age of 6, dropped out at 13 as he wanted to ‘make beats for his friends’. While looking for samples he accidentally discovered the whole history of jazz on vinyl and chose to self-teach; returned to a jazz focused high school and after (ironically) applied for classical composition at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. Which, too much surprise, he graduated with a master’s degree. Following that, he studied orchestration and film scoring at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles). In 2012, JIMEK gained international recognition as the winner of Beyoncé’s ‘End of Time’ remix competition, beating over 3000 international contestants. The winning track was released on Beyonce’s album ‘4: The Remix’. He has since been involved in several projects that have also brought additional attention to his work and have allowed him to gradually combine his classical symphonic writing skills with electronic production and, eventually, the addition of rap. He has released two original symphonic rap albums. He released two original symphonic rap albums. After one of his first concerts with the Polish rapper Miuosh and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, as an encore and personal tribute to his rap heroes, JIMEK compiled and orchestrated his favorite beats. A video from this concert posted by fans went viral appearing on most major websites and was also reposted and recognized by many of the artists whose music was featured in the piece (Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan, Nicki Minaj, Pharaohe Monch, M.O.P). In 2016 JIMEK was asked to record a symphonic Rap album for Deutsche Grammophon, with the German rapper MoTrip, premiering at Konzerthaus Berlin. That same year he hosted the Solidarity of Arts Festival and the concert ‘JIMEK+’ featuring international guests gathered an audience of 18’000. In 2017 he scored two movies; ‘Art of Loving’ for which he was awarded the Polish Film Academy Award for Best Score, and ‘Panic Attack’ for which he received the Komeda Grand Prix, Young Cinema Award for Best Score and also Grand Prix Award on A.P.Kaczmarek festival “Transatlantyk”. In 2018 he was commissioned to write a 35 minute symphonic threnody for the commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Also that year, after his involvement in youth workshop visits with Ghetto Classics – a children and youth orchestra from Korogocho (slums in Nairobi) he was honored to become their ambassador. They performed several times (e.g at the Safaricom Jazz Festival in Nairobi, Kenya, also in Poland, summer 2018). In 2018 he performed for the first time at H&M Music Festival, with symphonic orchestra, presenting project called Symphonixx; 8K tickets were sold out in 4 hours. Hosted Festival JIMEK+, where became a music director for 2 days music festival and performed with full size orchestra featuring special guests – Pharoahe Monch (JIMEK rewrote his biggest hits such as: Simon Says, Oh No and many more), also Bokante (with Michael League). Festival took place in a spectacular Gliwice Arena.
2019 was a spectacular concert year: not only he performed (again) at H&M Loves Music Festival as a headliner with symphonic orchestra and 2 of the most popular polish raper’s collaboration (8k ticket sold out in few hours), played 2 concerts at NFM with NFM Symphony Orchestra (5K tickets sold out in 15 min), but also had a concert at Silesia Stadium with NOSPR Orchestra for more than 45k audience. His last 2019’s concert was at Centennial Hall, Wrocław, with NFM Symphony Orchestra (7K audience.) This year he also scored series for major polish TV network (‘Motive’, TVN) and released HHH vol. 2 on YT.
In 2020 he continued working on the movie score “Nobody Sleeps In The Woods Tonight”, premiere spring 2020 on Netflix; also Sexify – the Original Netflix Series (premiere spring 2021). Maisie Music Publishing has released a soundtrack album for Sexify – the album features selections of the show’s original music composed by JIMEK. The soundtrack is available on every major digital music outlets.
