About Kandle
Kandle has been making waves in Canada since her highly successful 2014 release, In Flames, via Dare To Care Records. The critically acclaimed album garnered her a Juno Nomination, Fan Choice Award Win at the Prism Awards, nominations for album of the year and artist of the year at the Gamiq Awards and significant national and international press that catapulted her onto the scene with a devout fan base and serious industry supporters. This release also helped to build important collaborations such as her continued and successful relationship with super star Canadian French EDM Artists Apashe (over 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify), Coeur De Pirate, July Talk and more which shows her versatility as a songwriter and ability to cross genres and even sing in French. Her sophomore album has garnered over 2 million streams on Spotify and continues to grow! Kandle stands out from the pack and shows us that nobody sounds quite like her. Back with a fresh full-length critically acclaimed album, she seamlessly marries her adoration for 60s girl group soul and the haunting 90's alt rock she grew up on. This newly independent artist has proved herself unstoppable after years of abuse and mistreatment from different labels and managers in the industry. Free and in charge for the first time, the tracks buzz with a retro feel but the dark, no holds barred songwriting is what we've come to love from Kandle. Tales of toxicity, manipulation and heartbreak are delivered with stark, striking honesty over a captivating array of sonic influences. Sparkling piano, distorted guitars, dynamic horns and stunning harmonies make you (almost) forget you're deep diving into her darkest secrets. Her music speaks to the loners and the forgotten, navigating the less-travelled corners of sound and feeling with bold, uncompromising vision. Kandle’s mastery of music comes as no surprise, having collaborated with some of Canada’s finest songwriters, including Sam Roberts, Peter Dremanis, and Devon Portielje (Half Moon Run), in her impressive career to date — Kandle was also asked to star in Jack White’s award winning short film for Corporation which went on to win several awards. Kandle started her career in Montreal with her self titled EP and quickly saw success playing Osheaga as her 3rd show ever and began touring the world and being featured in media such as Flare, Elle, Dress To Kill, Voir cover girl and more. Her new album is a crescendo of all her years immersed in music and is self produced with stunningly haunting brilliant songs. Kandle is driven ever-forward by a determination to be a voice for the lonely and to follow her artistic instincts. She explores new sonic influences and collaborations to create her strongest album yet, one that is completely vulnerable and unwaveringly honest; an ode to the darkness that surrounds us and the connections we find in it together. Hypnotic, sexy, vulnerable, edgy, and raw from start to finish. One cannot simply put this artist in some narrow category. The other half of this power partnership is multi-instrumentalist / co-producer Jeffrey Mitchell, whose talents and musical influences made him the ideal collaborator, and whose vocal performances on the album have been compared to David Bowie, Nick Cave, and Lee Hazelwood.
