About Kenny Wayne Shepherd
For the last quarter-century, riding shotgun with Kenny Wayne Shepherd has been the greatest road-trip in rock ‘n’ roll. Gone is the young Louisiana gunslinger who erupted onto the early-’90s scene with his burn-it-down guitar solos and gut-punch songcraft. The man he’s become is even more magnetic, still pushing his Fender Strat where others fear to fret, while diving deep into human truths and personal evolution with an honesty that only comes with miles on the clock. If that quarter-century journey has taught Shepherd anything, it’s that there’s no such thing as mission accomplished. A restless creativity has driven Shepherd ever since he taught himself to play guitar at the age of 7. A musician in constant motion, Shepherd has spent his career burning up the highways and crossing continents, bringing his unique style of rock/blues to the world. Like all the great songwriters, Shepherd’s studio catalogue has always been the best way to get to know the reserved musician. His path was set from childhood, as he copped the licks from the records brought home by his radio DJ/Program Director father and was sent reeling from a “life-changing” meeting with Stevie Ray Vaughan to make his own stage debut at the age of 13. With early albums like his Platinum selling Ledbetter Heights, his Platinum selling Trouble Is…, his Gold selling Live On and The Place You’re In, the blues-rock scene hailed its most honest new songwriter and guitar hero with a plethora of awards including two Billboard Music Awards, two Orville H. Gibson Awards and two Grammy nominations. Shepherd continued writing, recording and touring, chronicling the highs and hard times, while dousing his shows with guitar pyrotechnics. “The first five years of my career,” he remembers, “I was on tour non-stop. I’d probably go home for two weeks a year.” The year 2007 brought the ambitious Platinum selling DVD/CD project 10 Days Out: Blues from the Backroads, for which Shepherd received two more Grammy nominations. In the documentary, he and his band traveled throughout the American South to record with such blues icons as B.B. King, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Hubert Sumlin, Pinetop Perkins and David “Honeyboy” Edwards. 2010 saw the release of Shepherd’s long-awaited first live album, Live! In Chicago, recorded at Chicago’s House of Blues during the all-star Legends tour supporting 10 Days Out. The live disc debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Blues chart, marking the 5th time he had a #1 debut as well as receiving yet another Grammy nomination. In 2011, the now seasoned performer and songwriter stopped off to release the acclaimed How I Go and in 2013, Shepherd became one-third of blues-rock supergroup The Rides, with legendary veterans Stephen Stills (Crosby, Stills & Nash) and Barry Goldberg (Electric Flag). The Rides toured extensively, and have released two acclaimed albums, Can't Get Enough and Pierced Arrow, that further illuminate Shepherd’s depth and proficiency as a songwriter, guitar player and now vocalist. In 2014, the rocket-fueled collaboration covers album, Goin’ Home was introduced and 2017 saw the release of Lay It On Down which was followed by 2019’s The Traveler, which reaches across the battle lines of a planet that has never been so divided and showcases Shepherd’s ever-evolving songwriting. The Traveler also marked the 8th time Shepherd had a release debut at #1 on the Billboard Blues charts. In an industry that's changed drastically over the years, Shepherd’s versatility and drive has served him well. He plans to keep making music and to keep touring, “I don’t have any intention of sitting idly. We're a live band, and when people listen to our records, I want them to hear what we sound like when we play live. I just want to keep moving and keep creating and keep doing what I love – for as long as I possibly can…”

Kenny Wayne was amazing! However, they FORCED KWS band to end the show when lightning was striking nearby. An hour later, they allowed Buddy Guy to do his part of the show. I'm glad we got to see Buddy Guy but it was quite obvious he is almost 87. He did more talking than singing and his guitar playing was off. He also used the f-bomb quite a bit. He did bring Kenny out to play with him but by that time we were exhausted....Kenny was amazing but it was a lot of waiting and the weather just did not cooperate.

Without a doubt the greatest guitar shows I've seen. The tandem of Kenny's guitar firey guitar prowess and Noahs rich and powerful vocals is just unreal. Spectacular. This line up included a horn section to serve up a complete and colorful performance in partnership with the B3 Hammond. All this standing firmly atop a tight and solid night of bass lines driven by none other than Chris Layton on drums. The mix was clean, well balanced and appropriate volume for the venue. Just an absolutely amazing and satiating night of music...Thank you!

Capitol One Hall @ Tysons Virginia We love KWS and were very excited to go to this event. The venue is beautiful! The acoustics were amazing. The seats in the “theatre style” room were very comfortable. My only disappointment was that the show was so short!! Started at 8 and ended at 9:30. I am not sure if concerts in venues like this are typically shorter?? KWS and the Band were outstanding. Definitely recommend seeing a show if you haven’t already!

KWS did a great job showcasing the band. Mark Pender’s an excellent trumpet player, and Joe Krown was great on the keyboard. Shepherd himself owned up to an accidental shift to the wrong key, and humbly blamed himself! He’s got terrific energy and stage presence, and his solos are always interesting. He did a long announcement for an old ballad that was somewhat underwhelming though… gotta please the crowd. It was an older crowd (self included!), 50-60s who enjoyed great rock blues. KWS announced a new album is on the way.

KWS always puts on a high-energy show and electrifies the crowd with his signature guitar style. I've seen KWS 6 times since 1999 at the NYC BB King Blues Festival and this specific show was right up there at the top of his performances and stage presence. The addition of the keyboardist Joe Krown, trumpet player Mark Pender and saxophonist Joe Sublett elevated their sound to new heights. Can't wait to see them again with their reported new music.... hoping for a release in 2023.

Kenny was amazing. Probably the best concert we've ever been to. We will see him again any time he's close to our area. Eric Gales is an amazing guitarist but it was too loud for us and not quite our style. Still it was heart-warming to see the friendship and respect between Kenny and Eric. We've introduced a couple of our friends to KWS and he now has a couple new fans. Thank you KWS for your mind-blowing performance.

The bands, were spectacular. King fish, aamazing! KwS phenominal as usual. Buddy Guy's guitar too loud, sound people had his volume much higher than anyone else in the band, it drowned out everyone else. I was quite upset that my tickets I printed out said Kingfish started at 7:30 but he had already started playing when we arrived at 6:50. Then I checked the website which said 6:30. I.purchased my ticked back in July, and printed them out.

The show was great and the sound sounded very good. We had a disabled parking permit. What a cluster... No one had a clue whether there were any slots left or where they were. After some consternation we finally found a spot. Not sure what can be done but people walking around during the show was the worst I've ever experienced. Not sure why a bunch of old farts like me would be wandering around so much.

What a fantastic show! Between the intimate peeks in his personal life with videos from his wedding / family /past and music that rocked so hard for hours, the entire album of Trouble Is and new tunes they’ve been working on, it was super rad and one hundred percent satisfied. Every member of this band is so talented, performed with all they have and created memories for me that I’ll remember for years to come!

I have always liked KWS Band. I was supposed to see them live in Kettering, Ohio but they had to cancel. I was glad to get the chance to see it this way. I am always glad to see when people give back. The guitar auction was really cool to see. I loved when he got up and played one of them on stage to help raise more money for the charities.
