Lucy Woodward is a genre-defying singer-songwriter known for versatility, originality, and a voice that is unmistakably her own—equal parts grit, grace, velvet, and voltage. She moves effortlessly from high-energy intensity to smoky intimacy, blending art pop, soul, and global groove with emotional depth and stage command. Her 9th album, I Need To Roam (GroundUP Music), reflects a life in motion—creatively, geographically, and emotionally. Recorded between Rotterdam and rural Virginia, it brings together art pop color, soulful grit, warmth, and global pulse. At the heart of the record is her longtime band, The Rocketeers, whose chemistry was forged on stages across Europe. Raised between NYC and the Netherlands by classical musicians, Woodward grew up immersed in a wide range of sounds, from Puccini to salsa to Greek music. That cross-cultural foundation continues to shape her boundary-crossing style. The album was also shaped by Woodward’s volunteer work in Rwanda with Afghan girls who had fled Taliban rule, whose resilience and discovery of freedom through music left a lasting mark on the project. Her career includes a 2003 Top 40 hit with “Dumb Girls,” a BMI award-winning co-write for Stacie Orrico’s “(There’s Gotta Be) More to Life,” collaborations with Tony Visconti, Snarky Puppy, and Charlie Hunter, international touring, performances with European Big Bands, and with Pink Martini, learning a multilingual repertoire in five days.
