About moi Caprice
Danish 4-piece indie band, moi Caprice, rose to underground fame when they hit the no. 1 slot on the Danish Alternative Chart as the first unsigned band ever. The highly dramatic "The Sun & the Silence" held the top slot for 3 consecutive weeks at the end of 1997, proving the band among the most promising of the dawning Danish underground. Still situated far from any music scene, in the farthest reaches of Northern Jutland, moi Caprice took to the road playing some of the largest scenes and festivals in Denmark before signing with the underground label Lidocaine at the end of 1998. The contract proved nearly fatal to the band as Lidocaine collapsed during the recording of their debut, and they found themselves shattered across the country without any contract. 3 years passed before the band re-emerged, during which time they developed a nearly fanatical cult-following, their limited '97 demo being sold at large amounts across the country. 2001 saw the members situated in Copenhagen and with the addition of a new bass player the band had found their current line up. In January 2002 this constellation gave their first concert at a soldout Copenhagen venue. The release of their debut EP 2 months later proved moi Caprice back in style, the title song "Daisies" went straight into the top slot of the Alternative Chart staying there for 7 consecutive weeks, thereby making it the biggest hit on the chart the same year. This turned the song into a minor radio favourite on the largest national Danish radiostation, P3, as did the next EP, Summerfool, released September the same year, and the band found themselves ending the year with a nomination for "Talent of the Year" at the annual Radio Awards. With the release of their third EP, Artboy Meets Artgirl, in January 2003, moi Caprice started their climb out of the narrow underground, the title song being elected Single of the Week by P3 few weeks after its release (and eventually ending up among the 20 most frequently played songs of 2003). This paved the way for the release of their long anticipated full length debut: Once Upon a Time in the North was released march 3rd 2003 and moi Caprice went on an extensive tour all across Denmark, most notably the widely acclaimed Spot Festival as well as performance at the Roskilde Festival in front of an enthusiastic audience of about 8000 people. The beginning of 2004 saw moi Caprice releasing their 5th and final single from the debut, the naivistic "Riding in Cars with Girls". Supported by an astounding video by Oscar-winning short film director, Martin Strange-Hansen, the song turned into another radio favourite, and with 5 consecutive radio-hits within 1½ years and a successful tour moi. After a long tour the band withdrew from the stage, spending the first part of 2004 working on new material. In August moi Caprice started recording their second album, working intensely the next 5 months in Denmark and Sweden, collaborating with Danish producer Fridolin Nordsø, and mixing the album with Gareth Jones, known for his work with Depeche Mode, Nick Cave and Interpol among others. You Can't Say No Forever was released in Denmark March 14th 2005. It has been deemed to be one of the most anticipated albums of the year, a position confirmed by the release of the first single, "To the Lighthouse" (which on its release in January 2005 took the country by storm), being elected single of the week by both P3 and Boogie, the most influential Danish televised music program. The song entered the top 10 at the radio singles chart, as well as - habitually - bursting into the top slot on the alternative chart.
