About Melancholia

Starting as a bedroom studio project in 2010, Melancholia was the result of guitarist, Steven Henry Serrato, writing, and experimenting with recording. In December of 2011, Eric Andrew Garcia (vocals), Justin Overmiller (bass), and Colton York (drums) were enlisted in an effort to perform the music live. The following year brought with it a new drummer, Sam Kindt, and, towards the end of 2012, a hiatus that seemed more like the actual end of the band. In 2013, Steven met, and took on Javier Roman as the bassist for a new Melancholia lineup, after Javier convinced Steven to take up the reins once more. Javier introduced Steven to Alfonso Acuna, and, after his audition, was immediately made the vocalist. The search for a drummer came to a close when Franco Madriz was found, and quickly added to the band. This lineup remained until Javier stepped down from his position on bass, and was replaced by Marcus Jackson. In November of 2015, Melancholia released a double-single titled Malediction/Subjugation, and was the band's first 'real' release since it began. Soon after, Franco left, but the remaining members continued writing, and planning for future releases. In 2016, the band continually teased a new record, but didn't release Multifoliate until March of 2017. 2018 brought with it the band’s first tour, going up the West coast, as well as the announcement of a new, upcoming record, the single, “Reification”, and a music video for the single. In the current year of 2019, Melancholia has welcomed Chris Beeson on drums, released the new single, “Veli”, and put another tour under their belt. Melancholia is currently hammering out a new record, Gray Matters, and have plans for much more in the near future!
