River Shook releases their galvanizing self-titled solo debut on June 26. With arrow-to-the-heart honesty, vivid characters, soaring electric guitar, and shimmering pedal steel, Shook's unmistakable voice cuts through darkness like a beam of light. The album carries a sense of poise and strength, urging listeners toward deeper self-reflection and honesty about their lives and choices. In spring 2025, as Sarah Shook & the Disarmers neared the end of their decade-long run, Shook was already envisioning a new chapter and writing for their solo debut album. When a strong batch of demos yielded no bites from labels, Shook pitched an unconventional idea to their lead guitarist and partner, Blake Tallent: they would co-produce the record on a shoestring budget. After the final Disarmers’ show in June, the pair immediately began recording in their home studio, driven by a renewed passion and a shared creative vision. The result is a bold leap forward in production. Shook describes the process as more than evolution. "I had to completely kill my old self," they explain, shedding limiting beliefs to fully realize the record’s full potential. Tallent proves a crucial collaborator, playing nearly every instrument on the record and helping shape a sound that feels expansive despite its minimal resources. Together, free from outside influence or contractual pressure, the pair created something deeply personal and sonically singular. Across the album, Shook explores love, distance, freedom, and self-revelation. From the wistful urgency of "Country Angel" to the road-worn vulnerability of "If We Got A Chance" and the cinematic longing of "Lost Without Your Love," the songs balance heartbreak with defiance. Recorded in a rural North Carolina home studio, River Shook feels larger than life–an intimate yet sweeping work that confronts hard truths while reminding listeners of their capacity to change.

River delivered as they always do, with a mix of classic songs from their past albums as well as a lot of new songs from their upcoming album to be released in June that is sure to be one of the best albums this year.
Cherry Street Tavern Chattanooga, TNOne of the best shows I've been to in a long time. Amazing songwriting, top notch musicians, great musicality, and lots of authenticity made for a joyful experience. I will travel to see them next time River and band are anywhere close!
Fitzgerald's Berwyn, ILAs always, an outstanding show in a great venue. Modern Moxie, the opener, was fun and quirky. Sarah Shook and the Disarmers once again put on a great show. Lots of favorites on this farewell tour. Don’t miss them!
Neighborhood Theatre Charlotte, NCThis distinctive, alternative band does great, well-written country songs. The lyrics are honest and raw. They can rock out at times with Blake Talent’s guitar. The show was half hits and half songs from the excellent new album.
Moore Square Raleigh, NCHard to believe we got to see Sarah and her band at this small venue for just $5. Great set with highlights being "New Ways To Fail" and "Damned If I Do, Damned If I Don't."
