When “Younger” and “Hard Time” broke through, something shifted in the international music landscape. These weren’t just songs climbing the charts; they announced the arrival of a voice that could enter a room and claim it entirely. Seinabo Sey possessed a deep, soulful tone that carried both authority and vulnerability – a presence that felt undeniable. In hindsight, it’s difficult to imagine it unfolding any other way. Yet it soon became clear that the boundaries of commercial pop were too narrow. Sey has always followed a different compass, and on the album The One After Me that direction became clearer than ever. The tempo slowed, her voice was allowed to hover in a more meditative space, and the sonic landscape opened toward something larger than the present moment: subtle nods to Swedish folk traditions, the sound of a hurdy-gurdy emerging from the mist, and melodies unfolding slowly, as if searching for a different kind of truth than the immediate. It was an album willing to linger in the unfinished, in the cosmic search, in the space between then and now. With her fourth album, Välkommen hem, Sey presents her most personal and poetic work to date. For the first time, she sings exclusively in Swedish – a choice that some may view as a risk, but which for her represents a deepening. It brings her closer to what she truly wants to express, allowing her to shape the words in her own everyday language while letting her vision permeate every detail of the production. Through the singles “Hitta någon”, “Slott av luft”, “Gudarna”, “Crazy” and “Yasins bön”, the world of the album begins to emerge – a place where the landscapes of childhood meet the longings of adulthood, and where her voice, one of the most striking instruments in contemporary music, is given space to fully unfold.
