SOIL & "PIMP" SESSIONS is an explosive Japanese jazz band featuring Shacho (agitator), Tabu Zombie (trumpet), Josei (piano), and Akita Goldman (bass). Renowned for their electrifying live performances, the band combines exceptional musicianship with an intense stage presence, creating their signature style known as "DEATH JAZZ"—a powerful blend of raw energy, virtuosity, and uncompromising entertainment. Formed in Tokyo in 2001, SOIL & "PIMP" SESSIONS emerged from the city's club scene, challenging the DJ-dominated landscape with a bold live sound. Rather than treating jazz as a one-way performance, the band has always sought to create an interactive experience between musicians and audience, with Shacho's unique role as "agitator" driving the atmosphere. Their reputation quickly spread throughout Japan, leading to appearances at major festivals including Fuji Rock Festival. International recognition followed when renowned British DJ Gilles Peterson championed the band on his BBC Radio 1 program Worldwide. In 2005, SOIL & "PIMP" SESSIONS received the BBC Worldwide Award "John Peel Play More Jazz Award", establishing them as one of Japan's most exciting jazz acts on the global stage.
