Few bands capture the past as elegantly as The Sheepdogs. Since forming in 2004, the band from Saskatoon, Canada have fused rock’n’roll, roots and blues with a passion and delight that emanates from their songs – all tied up with harmonies that evoke Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and other ghosts of Laurel Canyon. They’ve won Juno Awards, had multi-platinum album sales, and become Rolling Stone’s first unsigned cover stars. Now, having left the major label world and bought back their masters, they’re doing things exactly on their terms. Paradise Alone, the band’s five-track eighth album, is the first taste of this new chapter, coming out on their own label Right On Records. A masterpiece in miniature, Paradise Alone showcases some of the best music of The Sheepdogs’ career. Produced by frontman Ewan Currie, engineered by Matt Ross-Spang (Rival Sons, Jason Isbell, Margo Price), and recorded at Southern Grooves in Memphis, Tennessee, it mixes the Sheepdogs’ groovy rock instincts with the soulful heritage of their location – infused with a free spirit that reflects their new independence. It’ll ring all the right bells with existing fans, and offer new food for thought.

Second time I've seen this band live, but the first time was at a festival, so this is my first full length Sheepdogs show up close and (almost) personal. Great retro 70s style rock and roll, with reverent references to the Allman Bros. band et al, and the addition of Ricky Paquette makes them monstrous. I WILL catch them again any time they come to NY when I am in town.
Bowery Ballroom New York City, NYAnother brilliant show by The Sheepdogs, superbly supported by another great Canadian band, The Commoners. We have seen The Sheepdogs every time they have been in the UK over the last 5 or 6 years and they never disappoint. Every song they played was slick, well rehearsed and got the whole crowd jumping. Can't wait 'til they return and will definitely be front and centre to see them.
Brudenell Social Club Leeds, United KingdomWas the best $30 that I’ve ever spent and will ever spend throughout my life. These guys are freakin incredible! In the mist of the best band I’ve ever heard at the Metro and top 5 overall. I was completely blown away that they did not fill more than a 1/3rd of the venue. These guys don’t get the attention they deserve! Can’t wait to seem them again!
Metro Chicago Chicago, ILI’ve loved these Southern Rock (with a pinch of The Grateful Dead) Canadians for more than 10 years! If you want to see a quality band with good tunes and good vibes inspire the maximum amount of straight white guys dancing…. Well, look no further. Plus, they’re from Saskatoon, and that’s just fun to say.
Doug Fir Lounge Portland, ORSuch a fantastic live show! Hit all the high notes, the harmonies, the guitar solos and almost the best part - the outfits. Felt like I was in “Dazed and Confused” since I didn’t get to experience 70’s rock as a teenager. Neil Young cover as a finisher was perfection!
