Stephen Speaks is the American indie acoustic-pop project led by singer-songwriter Rockwell Ryan Ripperger. Originally formed in Oklahoma in 1999 alongside co-founder TJ McCloud, the project quickly grew from a grassroots college act into a global acoustic phenomenon. Defined by warm acoustic arrangements, unpretentious songwriting, and deeply relatable romantic themes, Stephen Speaks became synonymous with the early-2000s acoustic pop era. Driven by iconic anthems like "Passenger Seat" and "Out of My League," the music achieved monumental, multi-platinum success—building a particularly enduring legacy across digital streaming platforms and international markets like Southeast Asia. Over two decades since its inception, Stephen Speaks continues to connect generations of fans through timeless storytelling, intimate live performances, and an organic digital footprint spanning hundreds of millions of streams.
