About Aysanabee
Aysanabee is an Oji-Cree singer-songwriter who went from growing up in the far-northern region of Canada, living without electricity, to nominations for both of Canada’s prestigious awards, the JUNOs and Polaris Prize. In less than a year, Aysanabee has gone from releasing his debut album, Watin, to arriving centre stage in his career. Aysanabee made Canadian history in 2023 as the first Indigenous artist to reach number one on Mediabase Canada's Alternative Rock chart.
From the generational work of preserving and transforming his grandfather’s stories, Aysanabee moves in a new direction with his new EP, Here and Now, one towards his own experiences of love’s end and his process of unflinching self-examination. Aysanabee shifts Watin’s finger-picked acoustic foundation into soundscape waves that carry his voice forward. With its sharper edges and towering sound, Here and Now is shot through with a feeling of decisiveness, of acceptance. It’s the sound of letting go.
