Barbaro forges a dynamic new musical path on About the Winter, their inaugural outing for StorySound Records. Featuring guitarist Kyle Shelstad, bassist Jason Wells, and violinist Rachel Calvert, the Minneapolis-based band earned acclaim for their bluegrass-focused 2020 debut, Dressed in Roses. Barbaro, however, sees About the Winter as more authentically reflecting the genre-bending interplay between Shelstad’s string band roots and Calvert’s and Wells’ classical music backgrounds. The album’s ten tunes deliver a captivating pastoral Americana sound that is both traditional and progressive.
