Wilderness of Mirrors expertly refines the Black Angels’ psychedelic rock attack alongside a host of intriguing sounds and textures. Mellotron, strings and other keyboards are more prominent than ever before. The Black Angels – Alex Maas (vocalist/bassist), Christian Bland (guitarist), Stephanie Bailey (drummer), Jake Garcia (guitarist), Ramiro Verdooren (multi-instrumentalist) – co-produced the record, working closely with Brett Orrison (co-producer) and Dinosaur Jr engineer John Agnello to achieve something fresh and new while retaining their heavily influential classic sound. Since forming in 2004 in Austin, TX, the Black Angels remain masterfully true to psych-rock forebears such as Syd Barrett, Roky Erickson, Arthur Lee and the members of the Velvet Underground, all of whom are namechecked on “The River.” The band's global influence is solidified by their beloved, long-running Levitation Festival, the veritable ground zero for the genre’s past, present and future -- celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. Following the acclaimed Death Song LP (2017), Wilderness of Mirrors is their latest full-length release on Partisan Records.

The Black Angels always put on a fantastic show! It was my third time seeing them and they never disappoint. It’s beautifully chaotic every time and that’s what I enjoy most about them! And they have zero bad songs. Never skip a song across the discography!
Warehouse On Broadway Kansas City, MOThe new Crocodile venue was really nice…acoustics were a bit muffled and it was hard to hear the words to the songs. Overall, though, it was great to be back in the concert scene we enjoyed the music…and were looking forward to the next show!
The Crocodile Seattle, WAThe Black Angels show was awesome. The Passover tour to me is a great success. They played a few extra songs entrance song was one of them which is one of my favorites. Could’ve been happier. Hope they come again next year.
Royale Boston, MAThe Black Angels never disappoint! They are the best live band, so groovy, so trippy and so polished! Alex Maas’ vocals will transcend you to another realm - Don’t sleep on the Black Angels! 10/10 every time xx
Ogden Theatre Denver, COIncredible performance. clean sound at the Forum. long set and absolutely smashing drummer who kept it going for an hour and a half. Highly recommend the black angels if you ever get a chance. Get lost in the drone zone.
