“Like all great blues men, MacLeod lives his music—the songs are one with his being.” — Blues Music Magazine “One of the great blues artists…period!” — Jorma Kaukonen “One of the last truly iconic blues songwriters of our time.” — Macallé Blues (Italy) Two-time 2026 Blues Music Award nominee for Acoustic Artist of the Year and Acoustic Album of the Year (Between Somewhere and Goodbye), Doug MacLeod is an internationally acclaimed blues singer/songwriter, guitarist, and storyteller known for his soulful vocals, masterful guitar work, and riveting live performances. At the heart of his music is storytelling—bringing deeply human characters to life with honesty, wit, and soul. A multiple Blues Music Award winner, MacLeod previously earned 2024 Acoustic Album of the Year (Raw Blues 1) and 2023 Acoustic Artist of the Year honors, along with additional nominations in 2025. His albums A Soul to Claim(produced by Jim Gaines) and Between Somewhere and Goodbye (produced by Andreas Werner) were named DownBeatMagazine Albums of the Year in 2022 and 2025. With a career spanning more than 40 years and 29 albums, MacLeod has worked alongside blues legends including George “Harmonica” Smith, Big Joe Turner, Big Mama Thornton, Lowell Fulson, and Pee Wee Crayton. His songs have been recorded by Albert King, Albert Collins, Joe Louis Walker, and Eva Cassidy, and featured in film, television, and theater. From 1999–2004, he hosted Nothin’ But the Blues on Los Angeles’ KLON-KKJZ, served as the voice of Continental Airlines’ Blues Showcase, and wrote the long-running column Doug’s Back Porch for Blues Revue. He is also featured in the documentary Resonate: A Guitar Story—The Making of National Guitars. Overcoming childhood abuse and a crippling stutter, MacLeod found his voice through the blues—learning directly from the masters and carrying their tradition forward with integrity. As his mentor Ernest Banks taught him, “Never play a note you don’t believe, and never write or sing about what you don’t know.” As Esther Crayton once told him, “You have a message—and you’ll send it mainly to the people who don’t go to church.” Amen.
