About Dropkick Murphys
After 26 years, Boston’s Dropkick Murphys put down their pencils, picked up their acoustic guitars, and wrote an album of songs around some previously unseen Woody Guthrie lyrics. The power of Woody’s words meets the urgency of Dropkick Murphys' music on This Machine Still Kills Fascists (out September 30 via the band's own Dummy Luck Music / [PIAS]). Dropkick Murphys break new ground visiting old territory: bringing Woody Guthrie’s perennial jabs at life into the time of their lives – turning missives from over half a century ago into something eerily relevant to today’s world. Or perhaps simply revealing the timeless essence of the human struggle. When Dropkick Murphys formed in a barbershop basement in 1996, the goal wasn't to turn the infield at Fenway Park into a concert stage, or to turn a forgotten scrap of a Woody Guthrie lyric into an anthem ("I'm Shipping Up To Boston") that would echo from Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning The Departed to sports arenas and championship parades. The goal wasn't to become punk rock icons or emblems of working class Boston. The goal certainly wasn't to still be going strong a quarter-century later. The goal was simply to win a bet. After nearly a dozen studio albums, millions of records sold, thousands of shows before packed houses around the globe, thousands of dollars raised by the band's charity The Claddagh Fund, and a few rounds of golf with the legendary Bobby Orr, it's safe to say that Dropkick Murphys won the bet. Their celebrated discography includes four consecutive Billboard top 10 album debuts – Turn Up That Dial (2021), 11 Short Stories Of Pain & Glory (2017), Signed and Sealed in Blood (2013), Going Out In Style (2011) – along with 2005’s gold-selling The Warrior’s Code featuring the near double platinum classic “I’m Shipping Up To Boston.” This Machine Still Kills Fascists continues a journey with Woody Guthrie that began nearly two decades ago with "Gonna Be A Blackout Tonight" (from 2003's Blackout) and "I'm Shipping Up To Boston." For those two songs, Dropkick Murphys pulled Guthrie’s lyrics into their musical world, giving them the DKM treatment through and through. For this album – created from a larger body of mostly unpublished works, curated for the band by Woody's daughter Nora Guthrie – they knew they needed to enter Woody’s musical world, an altogether new challenge for a band whose raw power had relied on searing electric guitars up until this point. Not a tribute album or a collection of covers, This Machine Still Kills Fascists is a collaboration between Dropkick Murphys and Woody Guthrie – artists separated by time and space, but connected by a common philosophy – to create something entirely new.

Played a lot off their newest album (which I really don’t know), but a good number of their older songs. Glad to hear “The State of Massachusetts” & “Black Velvet Band!” I wish they played “Forever,” “The Fields of Athenry,” & “Flannigan’s Ball.” They still sound great though! (& I saw Ken walking by the line outside as we waited to get in, but I didn’t say anything because I wasn’t sure it was him. Wish I had!)

This was a great show. There were three opening acts and the one just before DKM should not have been on the bill at all. They were hard to hear and the whoever did the mixing for them was bad at it. Rum jacks were great. DKM show was the culmination of a years long quest to do with my now adult sons. Great show and totally worth the wait.

Another great DKM show. I have seen the Murphy’s nearing 30 times and they have yet to disappoint. Last nights show was no exception without singer Al Barr (who left the tour to take care of an ailing mother) they made the adjustment and put on a show different than I have ever seen but just as good as any I have seen. Thank you for another amazing, kick ass show!!

Freaking amazing...Dropkick put on a great show, they sounded great, plenty of energy and just all around awesomeness. Big huge shoutout to Booze and Glory for the most amazing kindness and patience with my family and I. You all rocked it on and off stage. All around Dropkick Murphys and their friends were just out right amazing. I cant wait to see em again.

Great show. Not having Al Barr has clearly changed the dynamic, but family first! Much love, Brother. Loved that they played the classics, "Johnny", "Skinhead", "State of...", "Worker's Song" and having "Barroom Heros" in the encore ended the night perfectly. The show was amazing. Venue was good but the waiting-time (well over an hour) for the concessions at St. Jakobshalle was horrible.

This is my first time at the Eastern. The show was awesome!’The venue was fantastic! Parking was only 15$ and there were plenty of places within a few blocks of walking to eat dinner. We ate at Killer Burgers which great. Had beer at Three Taverns Imgainarium. Then off to a fantastic show! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING ME CELEBRATE MY 50th Birthday!

Saw them 4 years ago at the Alamo City venue (where they were supposed to play). They have really up’d their playing style and got the crowd into it. Glad I got to see them again! This venue has really improved since the last time I was here. They opened up the back and sound was fantastic. They had a damn big fan that kept air circulating.

Also eigentlich ***** Bands, ** Location

Dropkick: excellent show. Music was a bit muddy in the last third, possibly blew something in the audio stack. Bim Skala Bim: great opening act. A good compliment to Dropkick. Agnostic Front: poor mix with other 2 bands. More metal-style than Punk. Making the whole audience into a mosh pit was unkind and frankly dangerous to less able-bodied audiences (many fans were on canes)

DKM were high energy, lots of fun, great atmosphere, good story telling, and very much a crowd pleaser. Would go see them again in a heartbeat. Very good opening acts Jaime Wyatt & Jesse Ahern both did a great job. Typically not my kind of music that I go out to see, but I was throughly entertained the whole night.
