About Gino Vannelli
Gino Vannelli (born June 16, 1952 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian singer/songwriter. From a musical family, his father was a big band musician. Gino Vannelli played drums at a young age and after finishing high school studied musical theory at McGill University. He eventually went to Los Angeles, California where he signed with Herb Alpert's A&M Records, releasing his first album with that record label in 1973. Gino's brother, Joe, served as arranger and keyboardist for most of his recording career. At a time when polyphonic synthesizers were non-existent, Joe overdubbed multiple parts to create a texture of sound that was largely progressive for the early 1970s. Gino's 1978 song, "I Just Wanna Stop," earned him an American Grammy Award nomination. He won Canada's Juno Award for Best Male Artist in 1976 and 1979. Also, Gino and Joe Vannelli shared the Juno Award for Recording Engineer of the Year three times: in 1986 for "Black Cars," in 1987 for "Wild Horses"/"Young Lover," and in 1991 for "The Time of Day"/"Sunset on L.A.". Vannelli's other hits include "Living Inside Myself" (1980) and "Wild Horses" (1987). In 1990 Gino recorded the album 'Inconsolable man' and toured extensively for the first time in well over a decade. His 'Live in Montreal' album was released in 1991. In 1993, Québécoise singer Martine St. Clair recorded "Wheels of Life" as a duet with Vanelli as well as a French-language version called "L'Amour Est Loi". It was some 4 years since his last 'Live' album before Gino released one of his best albums ever, the heavily jazz influenced album 'Yonder Tree'. Issued in 1995 the album received rave reviews from critics and fans alike. Never one to stand still in terms of style, Gino subsequently released his 'Slow Love' album in 1998. A collection of beautifully crafted romantic songs, slightly more MOR than his previous album. We had to wait until 2003 for the release of Gino's 'Canto' album. A collection of classical and operatic songs which exemplified his compositional skills as well as his incredible voice. With a symphonic Orchestra he sings in English, Spanish, Italian and French. This album reflected an artist freed from the shackles of commerciality and one able to concentrate on just the music. The result was acclaimed around the world and proved particulary successful in Europe. In 2006 Gino released a best of album but again not one to follow the norm, this album entitled 'These are the Days' contained many of his previously best known songs together with 7 completely new pop songs. Following major concert and festival success in the late 90's and well into the new millenium, Gino who had a solid fan base in Europe, set up home in The Netherlands where he spends many months of the year recording, performing and teaching. His new album written, performed and produced in collaboration with Dutch jazz pianist Michiel Borstlap, is due out early 2008. Gino Vannelli's official website Wikipedia entry on Gino Vannelli

Great show! Great catering by Little Italy’s own RoVino restaurant! Gino V. still has a gorgeous voice and his band was great. Played a mix of new music and classic pieces, came back for one encore to play two fan favorites from the 70’s YES! He graciously stayed after the show to autograph items for the attendees, and he also stood with us for photos. We made sure to bring a couple of our favorite albums from the 79’s for him to sign - So fun!

That was bucket-list worthy performance Gino. You're band is the tightest I've ever seen. Who is that 19 year old kid on the kit? Smokin' hot drummer! Your voice is still so strong and pure. My wife and I really appreciated your telling of your love story with your wife in between songs. So precious. A week later I'm still reeling in joy from that concert. Thank you!! Love, love, love Gino! His voice is still so amazing and his band is fantastic. The Saban Theatre is the perfect size and charming. Parking is conveniently close and very reasonably priced…especially compared to the thieving Forum. My only complaint is that Gino Vannelli’s engineer could have/should have done a much better job blending treble, bass, and volume for Gino’s voice and the band. Definitely will see go to the Saban again.

Gino was awesome! He was singing great! The band was also excellent, and Gino jumped in on a small drum kit a few times during the night, and also on guitar for a few songs. I was very happy with the venue and the music. I would definitely go to see him again if he came back to the area,

Simply one of the best shows I have ever attended. The sound quality was outstanding and the band was incredible. As a drummer I was in awe of the fact the band literally never missed a beat! My wife and I can’t stop talking about it and the kids keep asking why we are now constantly playing Gino’s music!!!!

I’ve seen Gino four times. We were at the Saban Theater last night, Sept 1. I’d say he was good….not great. Too bad he doesn’t do 2 hours…..especially after I drove 3.5 hours to see him. He still has a strong voice and I love his music. On a scale of 1-10, I’d say it was a 7.5.

The food! The show! Everything was fantastic! I can't remember when I've had such a good time at a venue. The staff was excellent and the food was perfection. I hope Gino comes back to Andiamo because - I guess I'm spoiled - I want to come back to Michigan to see the show there again!

Sexy as hell. Smooth sound with all the songs. He has so much energy, his band, great as they are, needing more Gino energy. Exception being one sax player and singer. Will go to every show he comes near Maryland. 2nd in 5 years and he got a better stage and we got a better show.
