Girlfriend (born Kenya Edwards) is a 25-year-old R&B artist from Mississippi, now based in Los Angeles, whose music blends the emotional honesty of early 2000s R&B with fresh, genre-pushing production. Inspired by icons like Janet Jackson and Bob Marley, she’s quickly emerging as one of the genre’s most compelling new voices, balancing vulnerability with edge through warm production, confessional songwriting, and an unmistakable vocal tone. Following a breakthrough run that includes fan favorites like “Sticky Situation,” standout collaborations on Chase Shakur’s “Where Da Luv” and Jermaine Reese Jr.’s “Can’t Explain It,” and past work alongside artists like Tierra Whack and Bay Swag, Girlfriend has also built major momentum through viral TikTok performances amassing millions of views. Her latest project, Honey Water (via Encore Recordings), marks her most intimate and cohesive statement to date - an immersive exploration of desire, healing, and self-discovery that reflects her growth, clarity, and quiet confidence.
