About Heal The Hurt

Heal the Hurt isn’t just a band name: it’s a statement. It’s a declaration that music can still be used to heal the hurt in peoples’ lives. And for frontman Trevor Tyson, that’s much more than an abstract idea. It’s his story. “I’ve experienced depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation,” Tyson confesses freely. “I’ve been hospitalized for mental health and severe burnout. It’s an invisible wound. Joyful music is like salt to the wound of the brokenhearted. I believe that we’re providing something that the broken-hearted can find joy in eventually — without it making light of their pain.” That approach is immediately evident on the band’s first single, “Withering,” which dives deep into the heart of what it’s like to experience panic disorder. As thundering guitars and guttural vocals rise to a fever pitch, the song holds up a mirror for anyone who has dealt with intense anxiety to feel seen. The band worked with producer Patrick Shekut of Convictions for their debut songs. Together, they pieced together influences including Linkin Park, Of Mice & Men, Spiritbox, Underoath, August Burns Red, Memphis May Fire, We Came As Romans and Crown the Empire. Those influences make sense given the fact that Trevor Tyson’s own mental health journey was deeply impacted by metalcore— a genre of music he has worked to support for years, but never before given his own voice to. With Heal the Hurt, he’s taking his own healing story and paying it forward. “Those bands were there for me when I didn’t feel like I could step into a church or listen to anything that was just clean vocals only,” the burgeoning singer explains. “I know there are so many other kids out there that have felt the same thing. I hope that people can hear the songs and dive into the emotions. If they’re at the point where they don’t feel like they can keep living, I hope this is a lifeline. I hope people can understand and feel understood.”
