Martin Cook, a former piano player for the Kingsmen Quartet and a chemistry teacher at Swain High School in Bryson City, NC, formed the Inspirations in 1964 with several of his teenage students: Archie Watkins, Ronnie Hutchins, Jack Laws and Dean Robinson. The Inspirations began traveling full-time in 1969, a year after hosting their first “Singing In The Smokies” event. The 1970s saw the Inspirations rise to national attention with a number of hit songs. The group continues today, still maintaining their iconic and unique sound.

The Inspirations were fantastic! The message in their songs as well as the delivery of the same touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. Most important, their song selections uplifted our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Performed in good taste, ample piano and guitar accompaniment enabled the message to come through clearly with no distortion, no competition to drown out the message. The perfect group with which to end the evening's program was the Inspirations
Mt Home Baptist Church Morganton, NCWe really enjoyed The Inspirations at Friendship Baptist Church. I attended with three friends and we all enjoyed the singing. There was a good crowd, everyone seemed to enjoy. I love to hear good Southern Gospel singing and get such a blessing from hearing these young men sing. I was first introduced to the original group with Archie Watkins and Martin Cook in the early 1970's. Since then they have been my favorite group.
Friendship Baptist Church Red Bay, ALWORDS CANNOT EXPLAIN but feeling led to TRY - so here goes! Still smiling! The Holy Spirit filled the church and every person in it! It wasn’t a concert, an event, or a performance. It was over 2 hours of God’s Presence and outpourings from His Creations praising Him for our lives and this opportunity to worship Him , and thank Him for His Love and Mercy, and especially for the Gift of His One and Only Son.

Bethel Missionary Baptist Church McKenzie, TNThis was the very first time I’ve ever seen the Inspirations and the very first time I fell in love with gospel music!!! And I’ve been a huge fan of the Inspirations ever since! I got to see them in st James,Ava,Farmington Missouri and hopefully again in west plains in March!!! They are truly dear friends to me!! I’m 13 years old and absolutely love the old classic gospel style music the Inspirations are THE BEST!!!!!!!
