Spearheaded by four Norwegian/Swedish musicians, Kalandra is a band with roots in melancholic Nordic folk and gritty guitars, weaving ethereal melodies into raw and eerie musical landscapes. Formed in the beginning of 2011, they’ve spent a decade crafting their own unique sound, building their own studio, whilst also touring and playing support for similar acts such as Gåte, Seigmen, Wardruna and Eivør. Their break came with a cover of ‘Helvegen’ by Wardruna, that amassed over four million views on YouTube. Since leading them to join forces with the acclaimed record label ByNorse Music. In 2020 their first full-length album ‘The Line’ was finally released. The album was a journey in introspection, the feelings of wonder, anger, loss and acceptance at watching both your own life and the world around you unfold. From their studio in Oslo, the band has since created music for the HBO Nordic’s series “Beforeigners” and the full soundtrack to the game series “Kingdom Two Crowns” which resulted in their second release “Kingdom Two Crowns: Norse Lands Soundtrack (Extended)” in 2022. 2026 - The Other Side Following a series of vivid and recurring dreams over the past few years, vocalist and songwriter Katrine Stenbekk, together with bandmate Jogeir Daae Mæland, began exploring the world of dream analysis. Keeping a notebook by the bed, they started writing down fragments of dreams the moment they woke. Those scattered images, emotions, and subconscious narratives gradually became the foundation for a new collection of songs. Written over the course of just three months, and arranged and produced by the full band in the two months that followed, the album emerged during one of the most focused creative periods in Kalandra's history. The music drifts through warm, dreamlike landscapes where distant voices seem to lull the listener to sleep, before slipping into surreal passages that blur the line between dreams and nightmares. Throughout the album, Kalandra explores the mysterious imagery of the subconscious—where memories, fears, and imagination quietly intertwine. Ironically, the band had promised themselves they would never make another album as quickly as A Frame of Mind (2024). But as we know, life happens… After being forced to leave their longtime studio due to a full refurbishing of the building, the band spent six months designing and building a new fully soundproof studio in Oslo. By the time the final wall was in place, there was little time left before the self-imposed deadline. Rather than becoming an obstacle, the circumstances created an unusual sense of urgency and focus, allowing the songs to arrive without too much second guessing. It is, perhaps, the fastest album Kalandra has ever created—but also one that feels remarkably honest, deeply personal and cohesive.
