LADY LINN – It is no longer a secret that Lady Linn has a very rich and unique voice with a versatility that is second to none, ensuring that she is right at home in a myriad of styles. She proved exactly that on her previous album ‘Trilogy’, a series of three E.P.’s - ‘I’m Fine’, ‘Sea of Trees’ & ‘Nocturne’- each one telling its own unique story. The common thread throughout the album was her affinity with jazz, soul and dance, but also lyrically, various themes returned: the tenderness within family life, melancholy, nature, and the magic of the dance floor. There is also a clear evolution with the arrangements going from a sober, stripped-down quasi-electronic sound of the JX-03 on ‘I’m fine’ (with contributions from Gustaph, Gregory Frateur and producer Frederik Segers) to dreamy and warm analog synths by producer Joris Caluwaerts on 'Sea of Trees', to an organic, energetic sixties sound on 'Nocturne' with starring role for her partner and bass player Filip Vandebril and partners in crime: The Magnificent Seven, arranger Frederik Heirman and producer Jan Chantrain. Now she releases a new album: Midnight Sun, a musical journey through the night filled with improvisation, warmth, and surprises. The title refers to both the rare natural phenomenon of the midnight sun and Lionel Hampton's legendary jazz composition, which has been given a fresh and personal interpretation on the album. With eleven tracks that blend jazz, rock, pop, electronica, gospel, and house, the band celebrates the interplay between light and dark, freedom and musical interplay. For this album, Lady Linn once again assembled her trusted Magnificent Seven: Bart Van Caenegem (piano), Filip Vandebril (double bass), Simon Segers (drums), Yves Fernandez (trumpet), Frederik Heirman (trombone), and Marc De Maeseneer (baritone sax). For a year, they worked intensively on the arrangements, rehearsed, and jammed together, giving each song a personal and collective touch. "Every song on this album means something to me," says Lady Linn. "These are songs I truly connect with. This album is a tribute to the music that shaped me." The inspiration for MIDNIGHT SUN came from Stan Kenton and June Christy's version, based on the original by Lionel Hampton and Sonny Burke. In addition to jazz classics like Round Midnight and Strangers in the Night, the album also features rock from Eagles (One of These Nights), JJ Cale (After Midnight), and Stevie Nicks (Nightbird), but also house and dance classics like Move Your Body and Night Air. "For me, jazz and house share the same freedom, energy, and space for improvisation," says Lady Linn. The album was produced by Frederik Segers, also a member of The Magnificent Seven. This time, he put his guitar aside to focus entirely on the sound. Everything was recorded in three days, with minimal post-production and maximum spontaneity, resulting in a warm, vibrant sound.
