Motherjane is one of India’s most celebrated and influential rock bands, widely credited for pioneering the sound of “Ethnic Progressive Rock”: a fusion of progressive rock and Carnatic musical traditions. Formed in Kochi, the band became a defining force in India’s independent music movement through their genre-defying compositions and electrifying live performances. The original creative force of Motherjane: Suraj Mani (vocals and lyrics), Baiju Dharmajan (lead guitar), and Deepu Sashidharan (rhythm guitar) reunited after nearly two decades, alongside Alan Santosh on bass and Alloy Francis on drums. Motherjane’s debut album Insane Biography revolutionized Indian rock, while their sophomore album Maktub earned critical acclaim and multiple Album of the Year recognitions from Rolling Stone India, Rock Street Journal, and Unwind Live Awards. Over the years, the band achieved legendary status with accolades including Rock Street Journal’s “Band of the Decade,” AVIMA Awards for “Best Indie Rock Band in Asia” and “Best International Rock Act,” and recognition as one of India’s top live acts. Known for landmark performances at Independence Rock, NH7 Weekender, Hornbill Festival, and Rock in India - where they opened for Megadeth and Machine Head - Motherjane has performed over 300 shows across India and internationally, including tours in Indonesia, Ukraine, UAE, and Sri Lanka.
