A new band in Austin is by nature, redundant. But, when the new band steps up to the fever of a hungry audience and delivers the goods, they rise above the norm. Maranatha is one of the newest bands on the Austin metal scene. With a refreshing, distinctive sound that they describe as being "Metalcore, hardcore punk, and metal all shoved together", they are a band adamant about their faith and their love for their Lord, Jesus Christ. And their uniqueness doesn’t stop there. The band’s personnel ranges from vocalist Chris Johnson, who loves metal despite his peaceful demeanor to drummer Allen Bandow, a redneck who spends all of his free time hacking every piece of technology he owns. Along their eclectic journey, they’re joined by guitarist Ward Rogers, the quiet music nerd who pens most of the band’s original material. These two are bound by their love of Call of Duty and rap music. Next is bassist Dennis Curlee, perhaps the odd one in the band. Even though he is the only member of the band who is black, he despises rap music and doesn't really care much for video games of any kind. Music is all about the mix. Now comes a band for Austin that carries a unique sound and musician mix. Watch for Maranatha coming to your area. It will be time well spent.
