About Obituary
Obituary is one of the pioneering bands of the death metal genre. The band came from Tampa, Florida, and was founded as Xecutioner in 1985. In 1988, shortly before the release of its first album "Slowly We Rot", they changed their name to Obituary. It still remains an influential band of the Florida death metal movement that arose in the late 1980s. The 1990 release "Cause of Death" has been described as a seminal album in the genre, and vocalist John Tardy is recognized as one of the first vocalists to use an abnormally low growl (compared to the screechy growls used by predecessors Death and Possessed).
Obituary is listed by Nielsen Soundscan as the fifth best-selling death metal band of all time and its albums have sold 368,184 copies. Its 1992 release "The End Complete" has also more than 103,378 copies in the United States alone.
After 1997's "Back from the Dead" album, the band had grown tired of touring which led to the band disbanding. During the hiatus, Donald Tardy played in Andrew W.K.'s touring band (during W.K.'s appearance on Saturday Night Live Tardy wore an Obituary shirt). Allen West focused on his two projects, Lowbrow and Six Feet Under while not playing in Obituary. Trevor Peres formed Catastrophic in 2001. The band reformed in 2003 and Catastrophic continued to exist alongside the reformed Obituary. Catastrophic released one album, The Cleansing, in 2001. Obituary's reunion album, "Frozen in Time", was released in 2005. The band's first live DVD, "Frozen Alive", was released in January of 2007.
Obituary is currently signed with Candlelight Records for its seventh album "Xecutioner's Return", which was released on August 28, 2007.
Obituary's guitarist, Allen West, was recently imprisoned for DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol) and released in January 2008. During his incarceration, Ralph Santolla served as West's replacement. It is uncertain at this time whether or not West will be returning to the band.

Obituary NEVER disappoints! Only stopped banging my head between songs! Hanging Fortress and Hate Unbound from Michigan BROUGHT IT, although Exmortus is very talented, they played too long, and a few of their songs droned on and on and on..... My two sons and I came from Detroit, never been there before, restrooms were clean, bar maids were nice. Pretty nice bar / club, I would go back there. Craig from Detroit

I am definitely never disappointed with Obituary. I would love to meet them in person and get to talk to each and every one of the guys. I'm so happy Sepultura had them on their final tour because it makes it so much better with a really good opening band. Which Obituary is one of the best out there?

Amazing show, the openers were amazing, but I think overall terror was the best preformance, along with nails. Terror most definitely had the "craziest" pit, but sadly I did not mosh for them. Crowd could have been better, but that's the San antonio scene for you. I went for nails, and found all performers to be amazing. 🗣‼️

What can you say about Obituary that hasn’t said before. They always bring the passion and energy for the fans. Been a fan of them since they formed in the ‘80’s.
Sadus did the right thing to pull out and sack their drummer. He will be arrested once on US soil. The hospital is pressing charges.

My good friend Hammer told me that they were good and being that I had little knowledge about them, I took his word for it (and when it comes to metal, we have nearly identical tastes). As usual, he was absolutely correct and Obituary made the evening as far as I am concerned!
