About Plan 9
There are at least five bands named Plan 9: The first is from the late 70s. Plan 9 is an American neo-psychedellic band from Rhode Island formed in 1979. Taking their name from the now infamous Ed D. Wood Jr's film "Plan 9 From Outer Space", the fledgling band of John DeVault, Holly Scanlon, Mike Meehan, John Florence, Debora DeMarco and Eric Stumpo, Tom Champlin, Eric Vandelin, Evan Williams and Mike Ripa helped create the wall of guitar sound which became indicative of Plan 9. 1981 saw the release of the first single ("Can't Stand This Love, Goodbye")... quickly followed by the "Frustration" EP on Greg Shaw's Voxx label. Then a full length album, "Dealing with the Dead" was released in 1983 on Midnight Records, sporting full color florescent artwork and cool comic insert by artist RK Sloane. The band was nominated in 1983 for the CMJ Future Artists Music Award. "Five Years Ahead Of My Time" was released as a double A-sided 45, followed by a self-titled album of rarities and additional tracks from the Dealing with the Dead sessions on European label New Rose. "Midnight's Christmas Mass" LP included Eric's wonderful "Merry Christmas" track. Then "I've Just Killed A Man, I Don't Want To See Any Meat" LP was recorded live for Midnight, after which the band signed with Enigma Records and its new creation Pink Dust. Plan 9 was started in 1997 as a one shot, one time Misfits tribute band. The show sold out in under an hour and in attendance to this historic show was none other than Kirk Hammett and James Hetfield of Metallica, as well as Jim Martin from Faith No More. Years later Plan 9 have progressed into one of California's most popular bands playing for the likes of Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only (Jerry appears on the CD as well). They have mutated from a "tribute band" to a legitimate, full fledged death rock band. The big news is that Plan 9 got signed to Cleopatra Records. Many of you may know this label from past releases like Christian Death, Meteors, Vibrators and a host of metal and goth bands. The new CD is titled "Manmade Monster". Plus, the cover will be done by none other than "Pushead", a mainstay in the punk scene for years, famous for doing some of Metallica's best art. 3 - The New York based Plan 9 consists of two zombie brothers and their zombie cohort playing stripped down undead rock and roll. Although the Plan 9 project has gone on a temporary hiatus, zombie brothers Vincent Lugosi and the Chaos continue to produce music as Dj Bygawd! and the Hornet; members of the Hip-Hop collective, the Young Wonders. 4 - The third Plan 9 is a Norwegian old school hardcore band from Hønefoss. 5 - British hard rock band Plan Nine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plan_Nine_(band)
