Mit seinem kreativen Ansatz Kulturen zu vermischen wurde Shantel weltweit das hörbare Gesicht eines anderen Deutschlands, ist er doch der erste, der hier der Popkultur einen kosmopolitischen Sound einimpfte. Bei ihm ist Migration hör- und tanzbar. Musikalische Preziosen aus Südosteuropa, dem Nahen Osten oder vom Mittelmeer erscheinen in einem neuen, vielschichtigen Kontext, damit wird auch die Kultur, aus der sie entstammen, intuitiv erfahrbar. Seine Methode ist kulturelles Mixing und Sampling: Dinge aus dem Zusammenhang reißen und in einen neuen überführen.
