About Southern Culture on the Skids

Southern Culture On The Skids has been consistently recording and touring around the world since 1983. The band (Rick Miller – guitar and vocals, Mary Huff – bass and vocals, Dave Hartman – drums) has been playing together for over 30 years. Their musical journey has taken them from all-night North Carolina house parties to late night TV talk shows (Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show), from performing at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan to rockin’ out for the inmates at North Carolina correctional facilities. They’ve shared a stage with many musical luminaries including Link Wray, Loretta Lynn, Hasil Adkins and Patti Smith. Their music has been featured in movies and TV, parodied by Weird Al, and used to sell everything from diamonds to pork sausage. In 2014 the band was honored by the Southern Folklife Collection at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with an exhibition featuring their music and cultural contributions. Their legendary live shows are a testament to the therapeutic powers of foot-stomping, butt-shaking rock and roll and what Rolling Stone dubbed “a hell raising rock and roll party.”

SPECTACULAR SHOW !!! I've seen them all over the country for years and this was one of their greatest shows ! Obviously the pandemic and the two years of not touring came to a wonderful and combustible head. They were a nuclear explosion. 2 hours of hillbilly fireworks. And Zebulon is a fab and intimate venue with great sound. 5 out of 5 stars !!!

This band is still cranking out their music and it’s never sounded better. One of the most proficient, most entertaining bands I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing. This is the second time I’ve seen them and they’re just FUN. Every concert is like a raucous party and the interaction between the band and the audience is what makes it so much fun.

Band kicked ass as they always do, this was my 9th show and go as often as I can. Disappointed that they blocked off the seating portion up front, some of us older folks need to rest our bones from time to time (last SKIDS show we were allowed to and I took advantage of that for half the show).

Great show! The geezers still got it. Rocked shit out for a good hour and a half. All the old shit was great but first me the cover of Dear Mr. Fantasy they ended the encore with was the highlight! 10 or so minutes of pure bliss! Johnny 7 & the Black Cats were pretty darned cool too! Excellent evening.

SCOTS are the best! Great musicians, great people. I always have a blast at their shows. Sure hope this Wuhan flu fizzles out soon. Can’t wait to see Dave, Mary, & Rick doing what they do best. The vibe was great at the Harvester. SCOTS and Halloween = supernatural good time.
