About Truth Hurts
Shari "Truth" Watson, a St. Louis native, embodies the essence of her name – a quality of being true, authentic, and bold. Truth Hurts burst onto the music scene with her debut album Truthfully Speaking on Dr. Dre's Aftermath?Interscope label, making a profound impact with the hit single "Addictive" that dominated charts in 14 countries and earned her two Grammy nominations. Her journey took unexpected turns in 2018 when she faced stage zero carcinoma following breast implants. A series of 12 surgeries ensued after a botched procedure in Atlanta, marking a challenging period of recovery. Amidst a divorce due to infidelity and the tumultuous health concerns, Truth found solace in creativity. "I went through a series of events that led me to a downward spiral and into depression and anxiety," she reflects. Yet, adversity fueled her pen, leading to the creation of her latest album, aptly named "#Revelations."During this turbulent time, Truth also delved into acting, filming the movie "A Day Like a Week" in Switzerland with renowned French producer Kader Ayd. Starring alongside Armand Assante and Steven Bauer, the film adds to her diverse portfolio that includes appearances in "211" with Nicolas Cage, Day of the Dead:Bloodline, Security with Antonio Banderas, "The Wash," "Ali," and "The Parkers." Family remains at the core of Truth's identity, as she balances her artistic pursuits with raising three children, the oldest of which attended medical school. Despite personal challenges, she draws inspiration from her experiences, marking a departure from her previous albums influenced by the industry. #Revelations encapsulates years of labor and pain, reflecting Truth's authenticity and artistic evolution. Her earlier successes include the critically acclaimed sophomore album Ready Now on Raphael Saadiq's label, Pookie Entertainment. Truth Hurts has graced stages globally, headlining events like Life Ball 2012 in Vienna, where she performed the impactful song "Blindfold" for HIV/AIDS awareness. Rooted in the influences of soul icons such as Teena Marie, Tina Turner, and Prince, Truth's operatic and theatrical training from a young age has shaped her musical and acting journey. Despite industry pressures, she remained true to herself, with recent compositions like "Nothing Lasts Forever" and "Fight for Love, also RnB Love(2023)" reflecting her commitment to making the world a better place. With her new album #Revelations on the horizon, Truth Hurts is poised to redefine her artistic identity, showcasing the resilience and authenticity that has characterized her remarkable career thus far and the new heights she has yet to reach..
