Brett Hopkin, a.k.a WHOiSEE, is an Electronic Music Producer out of Austin, TX. Previously known as Madhatter! Brett began WHOiSEE with 10 years of music industry experience already under his belt. Originally from San Antonio, TX, Brett has been doing music his whole life starting with saxophone and guitar. By the time he entered middle school, he already knew he was gonna do music for the rest of his life. He’d take any opportunity to learn anything he could to help create the vision for his life. Brett was Drum Major for 2 years, had made All-State Saxophone, written a full symphony for a friend that passed, learned 6 new instruments on top of saxophone and guitar, and even marched indoor drumline, all before he ever even knew what dance music or music production was. The summer before his first semester of college, a friend had shown Brett Skrillex for the first time and surprised him with tickets to go see him in New Braunfels in 2012. Brett had never had his musical world turned inside out the way Skrillex did while blasting full volume and full production. Brett’s whole life had been inside of the classical and metal world until he was exposed to what ultimately was the next biggest change in the American music industry, and he wanted to make his mark on music history as his heroes did. Brett went to Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. He began college as a Music Education major, but ultimately, the experience of the Skrillex show never wore off and he taught himself enough to be accepted into the Sound Recording Technology program. As he got older and further into college, he also got further involved with the newly coined ‘EDM’ scene that he was working to break into. Eventually around 2016, the struggles of trying to balance college, launching a career, finding himself, relationships, and working a job took its toll, and Brett left Texas State. But by 2016, Madhatter! had already begun to mature and take shape. Between the years of 2012 and 2022, Brett had essentially evolved as a musician and producer, while at the same time learning the ins and outs of the music industry, sometimes having to learn the hard way. The combination of evolving as an artist, learning the industry, and trying to make a living created an inconsistent environment for him to do the things that he needed to so he could grow his music career. Although the Madhatter! project was doing well, it became mechanical and almost transactional. The volatility of his life as a result of the pandemic in 2020, actually helped him have the conversations he needed to have with himself. Being a DJ/Music Production teacher full-time allowed Brett to unpack everything he had ever learned on a regular basis. Being a teacher taught him to take his own advice to heart and seriously weigh out the possibilities and risks of starting from the ground up again. Brett married his wife Nicole in September 2022. It was around this time that his prayers were answered, and he saw an opportunity to build from the ground up. This time, he isn't learning how to build, he has true experience, professional knowledge, professional tools, and most importantly, a plan to never let off the gas. “I want you to see WHOiSEE” - Brett
