About Blackout
4 bands go by the name of Blackout; one hardcore punk band from New Zealand, one from Chile, one from Seattle, and one from the Midwest. The following refers to the latter:
Blackout is an explosive force in the Midwest music scene. This five piece, all-original, hard rock group was founded in 2002 by nationally acclaimed drummer Rick Lorek. Blackout has earned the reputation of a tightly wrapped, high energy package of rock and roll and is one of the most respected live bands in Chicago. Through independent touring, promotion, and self-management, Blackout has been paying their dues for the past 4 years.
Blackout has developed a strong loyal fan base and has played packed venues such as Chicago’s historic Double Door, The Metro and The House of Blues. They have also supported national acts including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Trapt, Buckcherry, Shinedown, Collective Soul and Constantine Maroulis of American Idol. Chicago rockers Marty Casey & The Lovehammers and Local H have also shared the stage with Blackout. While Blackout’s strength is in their music, the fans never tire of their energetic stage performances.
In 2004, Blackout released their first EP, “Away From Home”, recorded at Butch Vig’s Smart Studios. The four song compilation sold thousands of units at live shows and over the internet.
Blackout’s 2006 EP “In This Moment” captures the very edge of modern rock. This EP was produced and engineered by Tadpole (Disturbed, Finger 11, 3 Doors Down). Blackout has received world wide attention with the new EP through radio play, countless internet downloads and being featured in the nationally distributed motion picture, Space Daze 2: Spaced Out.
While their music continues to evolve, Blackout’s catchy songs and unique sound captivate an ageless audience. Lucky of the Los Angeles based publication Sugar Buzz Magazine states, “Taking their art to lofty levels, Blackout’s sound reaches deep into your psyche and leaves a solid impression”.
Always adding to their repertoire of original songs, Blackout continues to perform at the highest level. If you haven’t heard their music, it’s just a matter of time.
"Taking their art to lofty levels, Blackout's music reaches deep into your psyche and leaves a solid impression."

"Blackout's sound is something different, yet comfortably familiar."
- Jacqueline Milom, So Lovely Music Zine
""Blackout reminds me of us when we were first starting to build momentum in Chicago. Catchy tunes and a strong work ethic helps them rise above most young rock bands out there."
- Dino Kourelis, The Lovehammers
"It was a joy and honor to work with such professionals. Blackout is an amazing band and I will certainly use thier music and them in our upcoming films. Blackout is truly wonderful on all levels."
- James Vallo, Co-Founder of West Bridge Entertainment
"Blackout is a musical experience to behold in every aspect. A true culmination of what it takes to be the very best while still holding strong to humble convictions and never losing the ability to rock your world into a state of ecstasy!"
- Agelikki, Worldwide Music Group
"Blackout has their act together. I didn't know about them until we played Metro together, now, it seems I see their name everywhere. Very professional band and a great group of guys. I wish them the best."
