About Dee White

Dee White won’t object if you call him an “old soul.” The singer / songwriter from the tiny community of Slapout, Alabama, finds his deepest joy in the people, places, and sounds that came before. Hank Williams, Gene Watson, John Anderson, Vern Gosdin, and Charlie Rich shape his vocal approach and songcraft. Offstage he hunts antiques—especially guitars —and counts an octogenarian songwriter among his closest friends. “I learn more from old stuff,” White says. “I try to hang on to bits of it, because it’s going to be gone, as we all will be. The hope is that maybe some other young person will come along and learn something from me that I learned from an 80-year-old object or person.” That preservationist impulse has guided a career built on substance over trend. Encouraged early by legendary record man Harold Shedd, White arrived in Nashville as a teenager and cut his 2019 debut Southern Gentleman with producers Dan Auerbach and David Ferguson. The record introduced a voice already steeped in classic country and Americana, featuring contributions from Alison Krauss and Ashley McBryde. He supported the album on the road opening for Alan Jackson, Alison Krauss, and Ashley McBride, sharpening both his craft and stage presence. In 2025 White released his sophomore album Heart Talkin’, produced by Grammy-winning architect of modern country Tony Brown. Recorded live on the floor at Sound Emporium and The Castle with elite Nashville players, the project deepened White’s commitment to detail-oriented songwriting and robust, controlled vocals while remaining rooted in Southern storytelling. It confirmed him as an artist equally at home with chicken-picking energy and quiet ballads, and it set the stage for the next chapter. Since Heart Talkin’, White has steadily expanded his footprint as a live performer and independent force. He has returned to the Grand Ole Opry stage (including a performances during the Opry’s 100th-anniversary celebrations), delivered standout sets at AmericanaFest, the Bluebird Café, and other key Nashville rooms, and built a devoted following through his ongoing residency series at Dee’s Country Cocktail Lounge in Madison, Tennessee. The monthly “Dee @ Dee’s” nights — often themed around heroes such as Don Williams, Patsy Cline, or Sun Records—have become a reliable destination for fans seeking authentic country and Americana in an intimate setting, complete with special guests and strong local support. In 2026 White released the single “Green River Rye”, a raw acoustic-trio recording born from a Kentucky hunting trip and personal heartbreak, later expanded with a distinctive Irish folk arrangement featuring musicians he met during his first visit to the Your Roots Are Showing conference in Belfast. The dual versions underscored both his songwriting honesty and growing international connections. Looking ahead, White is set to make his Australian return at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in January 2027, return to Ireland for the Your Roots Are Showing Music Conference in late February 2027, and host a super-fan bus tour of Ireland in early March 2027. These dates mark a clear next step in taking his music—and the living tradition it carries—beyond U.S. stages. Whether in a Nashville club, on the Opry stage, or across oceans, Dee White delivers the honest, earthy tones of bluegrass, classic country, and Americana with the confidence of someone who has already done the hard work of listening. He represents both the past and the future of country music: a careful craftsman whose songs and performances invite audiences to lean in, remember, and pass it on.
