Jay Aston's Gene Loves Jezebel - Jay Aston, James Stevenson & Peter Rizzo www.genelovesjezebel.co.uk Gene Loves Jezebel were formed in the early 80s by identical twins Michael and Jay Aston. After signing to Beggars Banquet they gained a cult following throughout the Uk and Europe with their first two album releases. They achieved considerable success in the United States with their 1986 album "Discover" which featured the singles "Heartache" and "Desire ”. Following the departure of Michael in 1988 and the imploding of their record label, Savage Records in 1993, the band pursued various projects until the 1999 release of their seventh album. Further touring followed and in 2017 Dance Underwater was released. Produced by Peter Walsh, it featured a string arrangement by Tony Visconti. In December 2023, the band released their tenth studio album "Love Death Sorrow" on Cleopatra Records to critical acclaim. In his review of the album for Goldmine Magazine, Dave Thompson wrote “Eighties idols return with one of their finest albums ever. It not only sounds like a classic Jezebel album, it feels like one as well — at the same time as dodging any accusation of treading water or restating old ground.”Throughout their career the band has played concerts and toured with artists such as David Bowie, Billy Idol, Bob Dylan, The Ramones, The Kinks, Echo and the Bunnymen, New Order, The Alarm, The Mission, Spear of Destiny, Modern English and many others. It’s been a tumultuous journey for Gene Loves Jezebel. Lineup changes, sibling severance, disintegrating record labels, legal battles, doppelganger rivalry, and their own glorious refusal to stick in one place for too long, for fear of getting bored, have all taken a toll. More than 40 years on, band members Jay Aston, Peter Rizzo and James Stevenson are still performing together. On this UK tour they’ll be joined by legendary drummer Smiley (Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros, Archive, The Alarm, Robbie Williams) Gene Loves Jezebel's music continues to resonate. Their unique blend of glam, goth, and alternative rock has cemented them as an important band in the history of British post-punk and alternative music.
