Some artists write songs. Jahson Isaiah Paynter builds worlds. Born in Scarborough, raised in Mississauga, and shaped by Jamaican and South African roots, Jahson grew up inside a creative household where his father made reggae, his aunts performed on Broadway and spoken word stages, and his mother aspired to write songs of her own. By age ten, he was already translating his neighborhood into poetry and rap. Before music took center stage, Jahson spent a decade grounded in working-class reality, paper routes, IKEA warehouses, construction sites, and home renovations. Those years gave his writing something rare: a lived-in weight that no hype machine can manufacture. A 2022 move to Los Angeles sharpened his craft and earned him a reputation in high-stakes sessions alongside artists like Samara Cyn, Gabriel Jacoby, and Elmiene. He's now on tour as direct support for Elmiene, bringing his intimate, evocative style to stages around the world. His debut EP, Is Anybody Home, is out now, six songs of soul, folk, and hip-hop that explore boyhood, migration, and the courage around vulnerability.
