About John Mellencamp
John Mellencamp (born 7 October 1951 in Seymour, Indiana) is an American singer and songwriter, known for a long and successful recording and performing career highlighted by a series of 1980s hits, including "Jack and Diane", and by his role in the Farm Aid charity event. Mellencamp lives in Bloomington, Indiana, and is married to former supermodel Elaine Irwin Mellencamp. John's first record released was under the stage name "Johnny Cougar" at the behest of Tony DeFries, his first manager. Mellencamp claims it was against his knowledge and will, and he hated the name. A few years later in 1982, he made his break through with the album "American Fool" which includes his hit single "Jack and Diane" under the stage name "John Cougar Mellencamp". The story of that couple was years later continued with the song "Eden Is Burning" (1998), where Jack and Diane separate. He soon dropped "Cougar" moniker altogether, and has been known henceforth as "John Mellencamp". Mellencamp has always been socially and politically active and supported the "Vote for Change" Tour in 2004 opposing the policies of President George W. Bush. Mellencamp's new album Freedom's Road came out January 23rd and went to no 5 in the American Billboard charts.

Simply entertaining. Mr. Mellencamp has traveled a lot of miles since being billed with the last name of “Cougar,” and he and his band are very good at delivering technically sound renditions of the music that made him a household name. The crowd feeds off the energy and cannot help but sing along. After a concert this good, only one question remains: who will take his place as the American heartland’s conscience after he hangs up his touring gear?

John never disappoints. (Though I could have smacked the annoying people behind me who would rather talk than listen to an amazing artist. ) My Hoosier Hero, I so enjoy his music and his commentary. His is unwavering in his delivery and rock solid in his beliefs and that combination makes him an extraordinary singer/songwriter/storyteller. A true triple threat. So thrilled that my friend and I got to see him. He is our Hometown....Small Town....Love Bloomington....Soundtrack of Our Lives....Keep playing it John!

Played a crowd pleasing set mixing the old with the new plus is usual great colorful commentary on many things. Voice is OK considering 50 years of smoking, band is very tight and he doesn't miss a note either. Enjoyable show.. Only drawback is the lighting, if you were not in the first few rows you could not see his face or that of the band either. Needs either spotlights or video screens.

The music was great, but I felt ripped off sitting through a 25 minute video before he got to the music. People started booing. We were in the 7th row. The couple behind us left their expensive seats 15 minutes into the video and didn’t come back. Would have been okay if the video was playing before show time, but it shouldn’t have been such a big portion of the show.

Mellencamp. Was great. Small beautiful venue. Sounded terrific with his typical rasp. Had lots of thoughtful stuff to say. Definitely a few F-bombs, but that’s his way. Lots of dumb, drunk types in the audience (especially sitting right behind me) but I tried not to let that ruin experience. Glad I went.

Surprisingly moving and poignant. The dynamics of the band were excellent, the staging perfect, and Preacher John was bringing his heart on his sleeve like usual. Lisa Germano adds so much depth to the live sound. Goddamn great! But you still ain't got no friends homie! :)

What a wonderful show ❤️. John played so many hits, but there were so many more I hoped he'd play. He still has what it takes for a great show, and I would highly recommend seeing him if you get the opportunity!

Show was magnificent. Many grew weary of the opening montage of film scenes, but I have been a fan since he was Johnny Cougar and recognized that he was paying homage to film heroes who had shaped his persona. Intelligent and magnificent!!

John “Cougar”, wish he told a story about why he does not go by that name anymore, put on a phenomenal performance! Played all the hits and some other less heard songs that will sure be added to my playlist! Excellent!

We enjoyed the concert and am glad we went. Being in his late 60’s, his voice was a poor copy of his youthful days. It was hard to make out the lyrics he was singing although we all know them.
