About Marsha Ambrosius

There’s an emotional nature that only Marsha Ambrosius can conjure. Her work over the years could be described as both vulnerable and compelling. Born in Liverpool and raised in London, during the early ‘00s Marsha first captured hearts as The Songstress in the duo Floetry. Vocally, she conveys the lushness that is found in the crux of fulfilling love and heartache.  Her knack for excellent songwriting shines through most notably on Michael Jackson’s “Butterflies” and her diversity on numerous Hip-Hop hooks for Nas, Busta Rhymes, Nipsey Hussle and many more. Drake recently sampled her infamous vocal from her earlier work “Getting Late” on his track “Flight’s Booked” from his platinum selling record breaking “Honestly, Nevermind” album.   With her first solo album, Late Nights & Early Mornings (2011), Marsha revealed a more sensual version of herself. The standout single “Far Away” went on to be nominated for two Grammy awards and has sold over a million records.  Friends & Lovers (2014), the sexier sophomore project, gave us “So Good” and “69.” “OMG I Miss You” was a personal favorite of Prince’s and Questlove referred to the album as “the one that got away.”  Marsha met the love of her life while on tour in 2015 which led to her deeply personal album NYLA, named after her daughter (2018). “Luh Ya,” from the NYLA album amassed millions in steaming and the video for “Old Times” invoked the sign of the times, a signature for Marsha’s cultural significance messaging in her visual expression through her music. Marsha stayed busy, touring, and writing and producing with titans including Alicia Keys, Earth Wind & Fire, and Dr. Dre. Over the course of the past few years, her artistic relationship with Dr. Dre has since blossomed into what is the newest chapter of her musical career. Inspired by one another, the duo set out to create a jazz album – but instead they began working on what is now ‘Casablanco’, a genre bending album executive produced by Dr. Dre. In their studio sessions, they felt they had reached a unique apex that drove the sonics of what would become an exhilarating and highly anticipated album. Building ‘Casablanco’ from scratch in 2021, Marsha and Dr. Dre carved out a super team to piece together the smoldering sound of the album which included Focus, Erik “Blu2th” Griggs, Dem Jointz, Trev and Sly. “Dr. Dre dared me to dream bigger and aim higher,” says Ambrosius. “Conceptually, ‘Casablanco’ just started to take on a life of its own once we grasped the musical concept. The ideas just kept coming, and everyone was on the same page at the same time.” For ‘Casablanco’, Ambrosius stripped herself bare to create the grand release. She found herself alongside Dr. Dre, establishing a grand musical partnership and marked new territory for herself as a creative force.  She feels this album shows her growth as a singer, songwriter, mother, and wife. Ambrosius embraced her many facets and traumas to create ‘Casablanco’ which is a fulfilling and nostalgic soundscape that provides a much-needed relief and anticipates to quench our musical thirst for the new classic!  For more information: marshaambrosius.com.
