So Cal native Aris Anagnos started spending his days at Sunset Boulevard's local music shops, picking up odd jobs to make ends meet, but his nights were spent on the streets, in the neon glow of downtown, finding inspiration in the gritty landscape of LA. The noise of the city — the hum of the freeway, the distant sirens, the random chatter of passersby — found its way into his music, blending into the melodies he started writing. He began to experiment with a mix of heavy rock, thrash, blues, reggae, flamenco, and the kind of intricate fingerpicking that felt like an extension of his emotions. His guitar became an escape, a voice for everything he couldn’t say. He found connection with some fellow musicians and The Rift was born. One fateful night in early 2017, the band played a set at a dive bar in Long Beach called Dipiazzas. It was a small crowd, mostly people seeking refuge from their own lives, but their performance was raw. The guitar wept and soared, his voice shaky but full of yearning. It was the kind of performance that felt like an electric shock to the audience — they could feel every note. That night, a music producer , known for working with some of rock’s best acts, ie Black Veil Brides, Kiss, was struck by the show. He was taken by the authenticity of the performance and approached the band after the show. Inventions — the band's debut album — was a raw, unfiltered collection of songs that showcased his guitar prowess and emotional depth. Each track was a journey through the highs and lows of his life: the pain of lost love in “Annabel Lee,” the lonely moments of self-reflection in “Broken,” and the defiance and resolve in “Deliverance.” His guitar played not just the notes but the silences between them — the unspoken words that lingered long after the music stopped. But as the years went on, Aris grew restless again. Los Angeles, the city that had shaped him, now felt like a gilded cage. He’d found his sound, but his search for something deeper — a sense of peace, perhaps — still eluded him. So, in 2018, he did what he had done years before: he packed up and left. This time, it was a trip to the wild — Big Sur, to be exact — to find clarity, inspiration, or whatever it was he was chasing. He returned a few months later with a new direction. The return brought the inspiration for the single Rock Narcotic, a release that landed the band their first major radio break on 95.5 KLOS and on Vans Warped tour. That breathed new life into the band and in subsequent years they released some consistent heavy hitters with Skeleton’s Key, Bad Luck, Edge of Never, and Lost Angeles. Now, Aris, a lone wolf who has found his way by following the sound of his own heart, his guitar a constant companion is continuing onward and in the process of releasing the band’s 2nd full length album Metamorphosis. Grim the first new single released with a fervor on Spotify, quickly hitting 40,000 streams in 2024. Just Fine was the 2nd to be released and has garnered the band another spot at this years Springboard West Festival in San diego. The Rift’s journey, much like the city of LA the hometown, is unpredictable, chaotic, and beautiful. But one thing is for sure: when Aris plays, he’s not just performing — he’s exorcising his demons, letting his guitar speak the words he’s never been able to say.
