About Borracho
BORRACHO is a veteran heavy rock trio from Washington, D.C. Over 15 years of consistently strong releases and live appearances have solidified the band as a staple of the stoner/doom scene and earned them a large international following.
Beginning with 2011’s breakout debut LP Splitting Sky, the band immediately grabbed the attention of the underground, and laid a foundation for what was to come. 2013’s follow up Oculus highlighted a band in metamorphosis, moving the band forward sonically with a leaner power trio lineup, but continuing their emphasis on song construction and memorable melodies. The band hit the road hard to support it, including their first European tour and their first appearance at Desertfest London in 2014.
This period also saw the band release a flurry of split and single releases, including Chapter One of the now legendary Second Coming of Heavy series on Ripple Music that paired Borracho with east coast brethren Geezer for the instant-classic split in 2015. The three songs refocused the band’s songwriting to more jammy and psychedelic territory, which they have continued to nurture through their latest output.
2016’s Atacama, released by Germany’s Kozmik Artifactz was a firebrand release that paired down-your-throat rockers with expansive psychedelics and crushingly heavy epic compositions in a listen-in-full album package. This was the first time the band took this album journey approach, but wouldn’t be the last.
In 2017 the band teamed up again with Ripple Music to release the Riffography compilation - a collection of previously vinyl-only singles and splits, as well as some alternative recording rarities and a pair of new tracks. The collection would eventually also be released on 2LP vinyl by Kozmik Artifactz in 2020.
In the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic, the band produced the most scathing and politically charged album of their career in Pound of Flesh. Released in 2021 via Kozmik Artifactz, the record delved deep into societal and political issues while retaining all of the band’s signature riffing and groove. The record was again constructed as a complete listening experience, and deftly incorporated pop culture soundbites and textural soundscapes to smoothly transition one track to the next, keeping listeners fully engaged.
Which takes us to Borracho’s critically acclaimed 5th LP, Blurring the Lines of Reality, once again released via Kozmik Artifactz. This 2023 concept record builds on the approach the band took on Pound of Flesh, and features the full A-side trilogy Architects of Chaos I-III and the sprawling epic Burning the Goddess.
The album again explored societal and political themes, and truly delved into the band’s psychedelic side to bring listeners to another plane. The record exploded, landing at #1 on the August Doom Charts and ultimately at #6 for the year, bringing the band to bigger stages in 2024 at Planet Desert Rock, Desertfest London, Maryland Doomfest, and Ripplefest Texas.
In 2025, Borracho are set to deliver yet another sonic journey with the release of Ouroboros. Thematically, as the title suggests, the band’s sixth album explores the ancient alchemist concept of continuous transformation as applied to contemporary social ills. Track by track, Borracho take up consequential issues like mental illness, authoritarian brutality, automation, and the corruption of culture and paint a picture of humanity eating itself. And luckily for everyone, these tales are told with the kind of blistering, face-melting riffs the band has become known for. After the last two albums’ musical exploration into psychedelia, on Ouroboros, Borracho are saying it's time to rock.
““The Washington D.C. riffer trio know who they are and what they’re about, and their songwriting, groove and total lack of pretense continue to satisfy” — The Obelisk
“Borracho doesn’t just make music; They create entire worlds, scenes, and stories through amazingly textured soundscapes.” — Ghost Cult Magazine
“Borracho are one of the best heavy rock bands on the planet, and most certainly one of the best power trios.” — The Sleeping Shaman
