About The Volumes
There are several groups called The Volumes 1) The Volumes were an American R&B vocal group formed in 1960 in Detroit, Michigan. The group's 1962 single for Chess Records, "I Love You", was a hit in the U.S., peaking at #22 that year on the Billboard Hot 100. The tune was an amalgam of doo wop and Latin beats, and was co-written by bass Ernest Newsom and the group's manager, Willie Ewing. The group recorded further singles for Chess and American Arts but never returned to the charts, remaining archetypical one-hit wonders. Later on in the 70's several of their more unknown singles became hits on the Northern Soul scene among others the upbeat "My Road Is The Right Road" on the label Inferno. 2) The Volumes is also a four piece indie band based in Liverpool, UK. The band consists of Tony Slater - Rythm Guitar & Lead Vocals, Mick Campbell - Bass Guitar & Lead Vocals, Stephen Miceli - Lead Guitar & Backing Vocals and Tony McPartland - Drums & Percussion, all around the ages of 15 & 16. Despite the fact that the band only started in April '07 they have already won the Streetwaves competition, based in Liverpool, winning them the opportunity to play at the Matthew Street Festival 2007, and a set a Creamfields.
