About Badflower
Something happens when Badflower singer and guitarist Josh Katz steps up to the microphone. His primal, powerful, and passionate transformation is the most unmitigated kind of catharsis fueled by emotion and unfiltered intensity…
“The superhero version of myself comes out in the songs,” he affirms. “When I’m writing or performing, I go to this place that reflects the most emotional point I’ve hit at the moment. A lot of what’s being written is anger, lust, heartbreak, and all of that. Becoming an artist, I flip into this character I can’t shake or get rid of. I embrace it and keep writing in that direction.”
This approach stands out as Badflower’s calling card. It’s also a big reason why the group quietly became one of L.A.’s most buzzed-about rock ‘n’ roll bands. Since their emergence in 2014, the band—Josh, Joe Morrow [lead guitar, backing vocals], Alex Espiritu [bass], and Anthony Sonetti [drums]—has shared stages with the likes of KONGOS and The Veronicas, earned acclaim from OC Weekly, Loudwire, and more, and achieved a two-week run at #1 on KROQ’s Locals Only Show with “Heroin.” During 2016, fashion icon John Varvatos personally signed the band to John Varvatos Records. Little did he know, they had a big surprise up their sleeves.
“We actually had already started making a record without telling anybody,” smiles Josh. “After the deal was done, we were like, ‘How about this?’”
The boys cut the 2016 Temper EP [John Varvatos Records/Republic Records] in the garage of the Thousand Oaks, CA home which they share. Recorded during a blazing hot California summer, the sessions got so intense that their MacBook Pro often needed to cool down in the freezer. Wielding that energy, the music taps into a gritty and grunge-y gutter rock spirit complemented by jarring theatrical delivery and unshakable riffing, equally informed by Led Zeppelin and nineties Seattle as it is by film composers such as James Horner.
In 2017 the band signed a new deal with Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Records as a joint venture with Varvatos Records. Their debut album will be released later this year.

Going on a road trip to see Badflower in Ohio is always worth it, some other bands played 😜 bit I was there for them all my energy! They always step onto the stage and give 1000% I laughed, I cried, I jumped and waved my arms in the air like I just didn't care... I felt the love and excitement. I felt uplifted and I bought merch 👀😳. I can't wait to see you again. Need you to head line, Saint Andrews Hall, The Filmore Detroit, The Fox, Masonic, hell your so amazing let's fill Little Caesars Arena or Michigan Lottery at Freedom Hill, hell let's go with Pine Knob..... Just when you think a band can't get any better, Badflower seems to go above and beyond their stage presence each and every time I see them. They are an incredible band and just generally really nice quiet guys. Love their energy on and off stage. Josh's performance is unpredictable and so mesmerizing. If you have not seen them live, it's a MUST! I try to see them each time they come to the area, which thankfully is often. Keep coming back to Wisconsin, we love you guys! Also, keep playing these small intimate venues! Keep up the amazing music!

I cried not gonna lie, best concert I’ve ever been to. Dead poet society started the night and I was not impressed which is what brought this review to a 4.5 the lead singer liked yelling into the mic giving me legitimate headaches but you’re not reading this for dead poet society. Also Weathers is one of my new favorite bands. Then badflower came out and when I say it was nothing short of amazing I mean it! Josh is amazing at connecting with the audience and making everyone feel noticed. This is not my first time seeing them and it definitely will not be my last!

Josh - Joey - Alex - and Anthony are all such great and talented musicians - and together they create a sound that is really unique to them alone... Josh's lyrics are haunting and honest... Last night was the 9th or 10th time we have seen them... and I look forward to hearing their next album and seeing them come back for another show - another tour...
#LetTheBandPlay should be a staple in their live shows!!!! Just saying... But I did love hearing Wide Eyes for only the 2nd time live... That was special!!!

Amazing! The show opened with Goodbye June burning the stage down with their dynamic powerhouse of a show. Then the crowd got a quick chance to catch their breath before Dead Poet Society rebuilt the stage from the ashes only to rock it right back to the ground again. Badflower then took the stage. Whipped the crowd into the palm of their hands and never quite let us go until it ended. It was an amazing show and I wish I could repeat the night over and over again. Thanks for a great time!
