About Tami Neilson
Canadian-born, New Zealand-based and Willie Nelson approved! Tami Neilson’s worldwide appeal is due in no small part to her reputation, according to Rolling Stone, as “a fire breathing belter.” Neilson’s ground-shaking voice has wowed audiences across the globe and racked up numerous awards along the way. In New Zealand, she is one of her adopted home country’s most beloved artists. Her albums top the charts and her discography populates a combination of categories almost every year at the NZ Music Awards. Her latest sold-out tour there culminated in a live album backed by the 80-piece Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. Neilson has built an audience of all ages in her native North America thanks to appearances like the star-studded PBS concert special celebrating the music of Patsy Cline filmed live at the Ryman in Nashville, performing the theme song and writing music for the latest Spongebob Squarepants movie Saving Bikini Bottom, as well as making cameo appearances in the hit TV series “The Brokenwood Mysteries”. Counting American icon Willie Nelson as a fan and friend, Neilson duetted alongside Nelson for their award-winning song “Beyond the Stars” for her 2022 album Kingmaker and later joined in the celebration of his 90th birthday at the Hollywood Bowl. The embrace of Neilson by American musical institutions also includes fulfilling a lifelong dream of making her debut on the Grand Ole Opry in 2024. After spending half a year on a coast-to-coast tour of North America with her young family in a 40-foot motorhome, Tami returned to New Zealand to record a collection of songs inspired by her pilgrimage. This lovelorn letter written on 4 wheels over blacktop became Neon Cowgirl. From the barn-burner “Borrow My Boots”- a celebration of sisterhood written and performed with Ashley McBryde and Shelly Fairchild featuring guitar-prodigy Grace Bowers- to the dreamy duet of the title track featuring Neil Finn, Tami brings some excellent company to her 2025 release.
